    Description

A monster is holding me hostage inside a chateau.

The world is plagued by creatures called the Dread.

    And he’s their king.

I’ve tried to run. I’ve tried to hide. But there’s no escaping him.

He wants to turn me into one of the creatures.

Unless...I find a way to break the curse.

A curse that has turned him into the monster that he is.

He wasn’t supposed to destroy cities. He’s one of the Celestials meant to save humanity.

As I uncover the truth and break his curse, I wonder if I’ve lost myself in the process.

    Can I still escape him?

Or has he taken my heart forever?

    Oh My God!

very rarely am I speechless when it come to stories. I feel like I've heard and read them all already. But this story, though it followed the classic telling of Beauty & the beast, was so original, so authentic that it feels like no one has ever done this story before. Its different. Unique in all of its glory. And the lady who reads the book is absolutely perfect! I don't even have the right words! Beautifully done!

    Gilded Rose

This is an engaging retelling of an old tale. It is an interesting twist on the Beauty and the Beast story. The main characters play their parts, but everyone is one dimensional and I felt it hard to get lost in their story. This retelling adds some other elements to the story that do not get explained very well in this book. It is book one, so it does introduce the listener to the world. The beginning moves along nicely but soon the story begins to drag. A lot of things seem to happen off the page. The leading characters talk about many things that the listener is not privy to know just how they happened. The major antagonist are supposed to be evil and stronger than the king but are easily defeated and not even intentionally. The ending is strange and truly makes no sense, but you cannot expound on that without giving spoilers. I found Amicia to be a whiny character and not very likeable and while she is portrayed as being smart, she makes a lot of unwise decisions. I was not fond of some of the narration by Aida Reluzco some of the times it was hard to understand the voices she used and there did not seem to be much emotion in her narration.

    Narration was rough

I finally got to a point where I was able to ignore the over exaggeration of this narrator. But I think it ruined to story for me a little. Not my favorite

    Great story, excellent narration!

I listened to this as an audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a fresh, new take on my favorite fairy tale. The characters were well developed, though I would have liked a bit more from the protagonist. I was left wanting more, which works out well since it’s the first in a series. What really made the story, however, was the narration. Aida Reluzco brought this book to life, plunging me into the world of Amicia and the Dread, allowing me to escape to the dulcet sounds of her narration. I will be seeking out more books by both this author, and this narrator.

    great narration and story

The beginning of this was so much like the original story that I had a hard time continuing. But I eventually reached a point where I couldn't stop listening (like pause wasn't an option anymore)! I enjoyed the characters and how they developed into their old selves. There were a few parts that I think could have been explained more, but as this is only book 1 perhaps they will be explained later. I'm intrigued by the new world they found at the end and what will happen with all the freed people. Is Alexander immortal and she not? I really grew to like Alexander although I think Bernard was my favorite. I will check out the next one to see if it has answers for me.

The narrator was really good for this story. Her french accents and male portrayal were well done I think. She spoke with a dramatization that fit the characters and story perfectly.

Captivating, imaginative retooling of a classic

Strong female protagonist in a dark world. Narrator is wonderful! I could listen to her all day! The book was a terrific fantasy escape & I look forward to other entries in the series, hopefully with the same narrator.

    Interesting retelling.

A new twist on the beauty and the best story. This darker tale makes the beast deadlier due to his curse and only our heroine can return him to hi true form as a Celestial. Throughout this book you are filled with many emotions as each new twists leads you wondering how the book will end.

Wonderful beauty and the beast retelling

Loved it from start to finish. It has everything g I was looking for in a twist on a beauty and the beast retelling. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Also, the narrator was perfect for this! Great acting and lovely voice.
