Description
Severing a cherished relationship is one of the most painful experiences in life - and cutting those emotional ties to a loved one can feel almost like ending an addiction. Up till now, people recovering from other problems were able to get real help - like AA and rehab - while those struggling in the aftermath of traumatic breaks dealt with platitudes and friends insisting they should "get over it already". But now Exaholics Anonymous treats getting over an ex like kicking a chemical habit.
Written by counselor and therapist Dr. Lisa Bobby, Exaholics offers meaningful support and advice to anyone trapped in the obsessive pain of a broken, or dying, attachment. She helps the brokenhearted heal, showing them, on a deep level, how to develop a conceptual framework for their experience, understand the emotional processes at work inside themselves, find the path to recovery, and free themselves of shame, injured ego, and remorse. In-depth case studies of others' journeys will illuminate the way to future happiness.

It helped a lot
I started this audiobook when I was still feeling really confused and was stalking the ex a lot . And every time I’d check to see what he was doing or who he was with or check on his family or friends to see if they’d post about him, I’d feel so bad afterwards. Like why am I doing this to myself. This book really helped!!

Don’t waste your time
This sucked. Authors voice sounds naive and girlish and this was so fucking ramble-y. Ended up feeling worse after hearing this shit, not better. Don’t waste your time

Don’t waste your time
Horrible drivel that couldn’t get any worse until you hear the narrator who sounds so disingenuous and contrived that you can’t make it past the first chapter. This must be written for 16 year olds.

Sadly Repetitive
The same few sentences seemed to be repeated over and over in different ways in this book. It’s a lot of explaining the scientific reasons why it’s understandable when you have your heart broken.

More helpful than I knew I needed!
This book tackled some hard to deal with ups and downs associated with getting over an Ex Love. I reached rock bottom and thought about ending it all, then I found this book. It helped knowing that I was not alone in feelings of deep hurt, shame and guilt for struggling to move past an Ex Love.

More negative than hope
Spends over 3/4 of the time talking about the pain then actually talking about solutions and hope. We all know the problem, what’s the solutions or options

Life changing book
Regardless of your degree of “exaholism” this book is incredible! It starts by giving you a way at the beginning of a breakup to give yourself emotional space to grieve. I feel like what differentiates this book from every other “just gets over it breakup book” is how it then describes step by step how to move past the “train your mind to avoid the pain” directly in to “face the pain, walk through the hurt and emerge on the other side a different human with more emotional and relationship skills than you had at the beginning”. Too many of us get caught at the ignore and avoid stage and then figure out work is done because the pain has subsided only to re enter the same relationship (with a different person, or go back to the same person) and try again. But, when nothing changes..... nothing changes, right? This book gives you the tools for change. Highly recommend.

Very CIS hetero and geared towards extremes but some good take aways
The book seems to be aimed at those being all consumed by the thoughts or break-up of an ex so if that’s you this is your book. For more mild cases it still has some nice take aways but is less applicable. I was hoping for something focused more on middle of the road, but I enjoyed the stories and the science. It’s a very CIS heterosexual perspective and I found that disappointing. The voice is very nice to listen to and that earned it an extra star.
