Humanity has finally defeated the Dark Lord, but Morrick fought on the wrong side. Though he was a slave, he is branded a traitor and must earn the trust of new lords in order to return to his family, if they are still alive.... Now that their common enemy is dead, the nobles begin to forget old loyalties, and Queen Cathryn’s realm looks set to plunge into war once more. But there are older and more terrible powers dwelling within the forest, and when they are awakened, Morrick will decide who lives or dies....

Absolutely Fantastic!!

First let me say that you MUST be a fantasy fan for this book! Second, you HAVE to enjoy sound effects and music while listening to the narration. If either of these are not you cup of tea then don't waste your time. However, if you do enjoy both these things then you really should give this book a chance. This is an epic fantasy and I can't wait to hear the next installment! When the music started then the narration I was trying to place what it was reminding me of, then I read another review that said the Lord of the Rings and I had an "aha" moment. That is exactly what this reminded me of. The narration is absolutely superb! Nigel Peever is totally awesome and makes this excellent story to the next level. Due to his great narration, clear voice, nice cadence and very distinct voices (human and creature both), he truly elevates this story to fantastic! A must listen to those who enjoy an enhanced listening experience! I listened to this in only two sittings!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Cool Story

This story starts off a little slow but then it picks up pace rapidly. The narrator immerses you into the tale flawlessly.

Great listen

If you like Lord of the Rings and that line of fantasy books, you'll defiantly enjoy listening to this. It even comes with sound effects and a really good voice performer
who can really get you hooked by the first sentence and is exceptionally good. Shoot, he could probably be Sauron or Gandolf, if he wanted and no one would be the wiser.
So if you get the chance to listen, do so and enjoy.

A fantastic journey!

I love fantasy novels, and this one was wonderful! It brings you into the world, with enough detail to let your imagination run. Not your typical fantasy story, new fresh ideas! The narration was excellent, I love full production audiobooks, and this one was well done. I look forward to the next book in the series, can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!!

Compelling. A thought provoking title.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

There was A-LOT going on in this story. Well defined characters seeking out their personal ambitions with single minded aplomb. A world saturated with descriptive narrative that seems to beckon you forward into its lore. Some characters face struggles that lead to victory and completion... Others face trials and tribulations that lead to the loss of everything they hold dear. The story is given voice by a man that seemingly lends the entirety of his being into the telling. Honestly, Nigel Peever, EXCELLENT performance. I will be looking into other potential titles this man has narrated.

I have two gripes for this title. Only two. Number 1: Why is the soundtrack so overpowering?? A lesser narrator would have been strongly suppressed in some parts of the book. Number 2 is more in my own inability to understand the way the minds of certain characters work as they face certain events in the book. Their choices were surprising, their thought processes unexpected. It made me stop and ask "WHAT? WHY?!"... Oddly enough though, it drew me further into the narrative rather than disconnecting me from the story.

Should you find yourself in the mood for a good "Earthy" fantasy tale, I would highly recommend "Dark Oak".

Nigel Peever, Thank you sir for the life you breathed into your reading.
Jacob Sannox, Thank you for sharing your world with us. I know that I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great Listen

Fantasy books are outside my typical genre, but I was attracted to this book Dark Oak by Jacob Sannox due to the narrator Nigel Peever. The storyline pulled me in, the sound effects were great, and the narration was superb. Nigel Peever really is amazing in this listen. He adds the right emotions, and has distinguished voices. Families

At first I didn’t think I would finish the book but I stayed with it, and as the book progressed I saw that in this magical book the underneath. it was much like today in the real world, the ending was sad but beautiful. I would recommend this book did your mouse over the age of 14 or 12 I think it would appeal to them. Thank you to the author and the narrator, thank you for the experience and wonderment of this book.

Intriguing

I was immersed in listening to Dark Oak.

The narrator made the experience enjoyable especially since he was able to create voices unique to each character. Throughout the story, the voices he used was distinguishable and consistent that I was able to tell which character was speaking.

Whats more, is that there were sound effects included, which is a first for me and definitely added atmosphere to the story.

I'd like to get a hold of the next one to find out what happens next.
