Description

The exhilarating, genre-bending sequel to the sensational New York Times best seller City of Dark Magic

In this action-packed sequel to City of Dark Magic, we find musicologist Sarah Weston in Vienna in search of a cure for her friend Pollina, who is now gravely ill and who may not have much time left. Meanwhile, Nicolas Pertusato, in London in search of an ancient alchemical cure for the girl, discovers an old enemy is one step ahead of him. In Prague, Prince Max tries to unravel the strange reappearance of a long-dead saint while being pursued by a seductive red-headed historian with dark motives of her own.

In the city of Beethoven, Mozart, and Freud, Sarah becomes the target in a deadly web of intrigue that involves a scientist on the run, stolen art, seductive pastries, a few surprises from long-dead alchemists, a distractingly attractive horseman who's more than a little bloodthirsty, and a trail of secrets and lies. But nothing will be more dangerous than the brilliant and vindictive villain who seeks to bend time itself. Sarah must travel deep into an ancient mystery to save the people she loves.

Another sci-fi/fantasy romp in time and place

Any additional comments?

While I enjoyed the previous book immensely, I appreciated that there was less 'man sex' in this one. By that I mean graphic, unrealistic, and storyline disrupting erotica. I still love that the main character is a strong woman who feels with her senses, especially smell. The neurobiological - musical descriptions were also a lot of fun.

A good conclusion

I enjoyed this novel, although not quite as much as the first one. It was a little heavy on the sexual innuendo and activity for me, and felt a bit dragged out, but it was a good story and I enjoyed listening. I would probably read another book in the series if one was written. I really enjoy the alchemy parts and the history aspects.

Drugs, Sex, and Violins

This story seemed short on plot and long on millennial cliches. A musicologist starts out to help a sick friend, but gets lost along the way in sub plots involving drugs and characters from the past. My interest wained.

Read the first book first

Mystery, fantasy, magic, and music with a bit of bedroom fun and frolic. What if we could see the past and still be in the present.

Good book!

After enjoying the first book so much I was worried as to how the author would continue the story. After finishing though, I have been left with a good sense of closure that you don't often get with sequels. Very good series.
