Description
These eight lectures address two important questions: When is someone else legally responsible for harm done to you? When are you legally responsible for harm done to someone else? This course of eight lectures discusses torts, the body of law designed to redress through civil litigation harms done to persons. As with all bodies of law, in order to analyze the legal implications of a potentially tortious action, it is necessary to blend common sense and pragmatic thinking with an understanding of legal definitions as they have evolved over time. This series not only explains the basics of this substantive body of law, but it also gives insight through examples of how the law is based on a logical idea of a just outcome. Topics you'll explore here include the basic foundations of torts law, the three categories of which it is composed, and the legal factors necessary to find a person liable for a tort; negligence, especially of property owners, and the defenses that can be offered against allegations of negligence; the expanding tort of infliction of emotional distress, which can be either negligent or intentional, but which must pass several specific tests before it can be definitely labeled tortious; third-party intervention in contracts and prospective business; the legal implications of misappropriation of information; and trademark law.

OUTDATED
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, but not entirely. Much of the information is outdated. The examples he used were ridiculous. References to Rosanne Barr and the TV show Dallas give you an idea of what decade these lectures were given in.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The off-color remarks about homosexuality could have been left out. Today, those kinds of remarks are just rude.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Professor Frank B. Cross?
No
Do you think Business Law: Negligence and Torts needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
It needs an updated version.

Informative and fun lecture on US tort law
I enjoyed Professor Cross's lectures on U.S. tort law, as I did his other series of lectures on U.S. contract law. Professor Cross has an amiable, easy style that makes the lectures enjoyable and less intimidating sounding, even though the topic is law.
My only quibble was that I had wished the professor had been a bit more precise about the facts of the cases mentioned. It would also have been nice to have the actual case names so the keeners among us could have Googled some of them.
As I've said before, it would be great if there were more law lectures like these available on Audible. I'd buy them.
(Here'a a suggestion, Audible: How about Blackstone's Commentaries? I've always wanted to read those. Has anyone prepared an audio version of that classic?)

Great narrator and good content.
Narrator is dramatic and that kept me listening! When I listen to samples the narrator sells or ditches the book; important. I loved the content of this book and appreciated the great points.

Useful knowledge about general business.
This gives a general idea of what kinds of things are what kinds of business law violations. Interesting and good to know as a consumer, and probably useful to know if you are a business owner too.

The pace was not exciting
I was disappointed to hear these lectures. The professor did not draw me into his space by making a dynamic presentation of the subject matter.

A Great Course for Everyone
Everyone experiences negligence & torts about myriad aspects of their lives on an ongoing basis, possibly every day. To ignore this reality puts you at risk of losing something of value to you; maybe even something of great value to you. Professor Cross explains negligence & torts clearly, as simply as possible, with multiple examples, and sometimes with a seasoning of humor. Possibly one of the most-valuable-per-minute of the Great Courses.

If you could sum up Business Law: Negligence and Torts in three words, what would they be?
The book is a perfect lesson on Torts.

Contract Law. It is the same professor.

He has the perfect style of speaking that actually I love to imitate while teaching.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me exited to learn so much with only a book.
Any additional comments?
No.

Interesting Guide to USA Negligence and Torts
I enjoyed this particularly because I can compare and contrast the Philippine concepts of negligence and torts with that of the US counterparts.

A great comprehensive overview of U.S. Tort Law
Primarily, I’ve purchased this audiobook to get a concise overview of U.S. Tort Law for my upcoming class this semester. Furthermore it’s one of the fields of private law with the highest practical relevance. To make a long story short: I can absolutely recommend this as an introduction into the subject and especially for non-native speakers who intend to prepare for an upcoming exam!
