    Description

Jessie Black's successful prosecution of a serial murderer and rapist put her on the path to stardom at the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. Public defender Jack Ackerman represented the opposition, and his spectacular public breakdown after the trial put him in a mental institution and gave Frank Ramsey a second chance at freedom.

When Ramsey petitions the court for a new trial with a claim that Ackerman was ineffective, Black must step up to defend him. To keep a convicted killer off the streets, she'll need to prove Ackerman's sanity - a fact she's far from sure of. As she prepares for trial, powerful forces conspire to put Ramsey back on the streets.

Black has one chance to keep Ramsey behind bars, and it'll be the toughest fight of her career.

    EXCELLENT Court Room/Legal Thriller

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Absolutely ! Wasn't sure who was a good guy/who was a bad guy. You don't find out until almost the end of the book to find out who is what and why they are doing what they are doing.

Have you listened to any of Xe Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Have never listened to Xe Sands before but she does a great job narrating.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Without a doubt. I listened to this book in one day. My next purchase will be the next book in the series.

    Any additional comments?

This is a new author for me. I purchased this book after reading Wayne's review. I have found a few good authors by following him.
This book is fast paced and kept my attention. There are no lags and the suspense keeps building right to the last sentence.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great legal thriller; nothing is as it seems!

A man on death row gets a new trial due to ineffective counsel when his lawyer has a nervous breakdown at the completion of trial. The lawyer spends 6 months in a mental institution. Beware, NOTHING in this novel is as it seems because the second half has so many twists and turns that the listener must reexamine his/her perspectives again and again The author is very clever!. The first half of Burnout sets up the wild ride that is the second half

'It's over now. It's finally over.' Thank you God!

The quote above form the last 6 words in 'Burnout'. The last 3 words in my title are mine. AAARGH!

This thing's got more holes than a lace curtain, but without the artistry. Winters hoped that his adequately talented ability to write dialogue and action would fire up massively suspended disbelief. Hope is for bumper stickers or American Presidential campaigns. Hope is neither a business nor a plotting strategy.

OK, curious about how implausible this writer might get I listened to the end. He exceeded all expectations. Xe Sands reads very well... Normally I'd say acted instead of reads... But there's too little fodder here to fire an actor's imagination. The large cast of characters offer only moist kindling, but I will look forward someday to listening to Sands bring a more talented writer's work to life.

The largest question I'm left with ... I'll share.... SPOILER ALERT! There's a lead character on death row here around whom the entire plot swirls. With no forensics, why'd the police ever pick him up to begin with? How'd he wind up in a lineup?

Save your credit... buy something else. As for me? 'It's over now. It's finally over.' Thank you God!

Buyer Beware ... Nothing Is As It Seems!

The publisher's summary provides a good synopsis of this story about murder and deception. The courtroom drama along with complicated relationships adds to the plot and mystery of this gripping story of intrigue. This is a good, fast-paced legal thriller with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. I couldn't tell who the real villain was. I thoroughly enjoyed this story... hard to put down! Recommend.

    Fantastic book and narration

I do not agree with the previous review by the gentlemen that did not like the narration of this book. Xe sands narration of this book kept me engaged in this book. I think the author, and narration were outstanding. Highly recommend this book.

    Great new Legal Thriller!

Would you consider the audio edition of Burnout to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the Kindle version, but I loved the audio version of it.

Have you listened to any of Xe Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to numerous books read by Xe Sands and she always does a great job.

    Any additional comments?

The author does a great job of keeping you guessing about what will happen next. If he isn't a lawyer or in the field, he did his research before writing the series.

    Burnout

Great book. Well written. Too much swearing for my taste but such is the world we live in!
