Description
Having spent the last seven years in Texas, Border Patrol Agent Peyton Cote is returning home to northern Maine, hoping it will be a safer environment for her young son. But the criminal element has turned what was once a quiet corner of the country into an illicit trade route... and there's no telling what they'll do to protect their interests.
When Peyton finds a baby abandoned in a frozen field near the border, she's pulled into a deadly conspiracy that puts everything - her life, her career, her family - at risk. "Packed with thrills and high-octane action" (Tess Gerritsen, New York Times best-selling author), Bitter Crossing takes fearless heroine Peyton Cote on a breakneck journey through the underground world of dangerous smugglers who play for keeps.

good story
the narrator has a pleasant voice but it did nothing to enhance the story. Her voice was too mellow and un-expressive.

You'll want to read this story
A complex crime solved by a captivating character. Keeley's border patrol books offer new types of crime to the genre, and while it might take a few chapters to figure out Peyton Cote, the intricate story will leave you up at night trying to figure it out yourself. Twist at the end!

Ok on a boring drive
I generally like stories with strong women characters. This one was ok. There was a bit of overkill and repetition in description and actions ie references to her black belt etc... and always making bad decisions which worked out well in the end. It was irritating that it was clear what was happening from the very first ie a smuggling ring; but, no one could figure it out. The fact that a mysterious adoption lawyer was in town and a baby was found didn't ring anyone's bell. Mildly entertaining. Lots of characters to muddy the waters.
