    Description

David Bennett came out to his parents as gay when he was 14 and entered Sydney's active gay community a few years later. In A War of Loves, he shares his growing desire as a gay rights activist to see justice for LGBTQI people, his journey through new age religions and French existentialism, and his university years as a postmodernist - before Jesus Christ showed up in his life in a highly unexpected way, leading him down a path he never would have imagined or predicted.

David had believed he was disqualified from God's love until he encountered that for himself in Jesus Christ. In A War of Loves, he recounts his dramatic story, investigates what the Bible teaches about sexuality, and above all demonstrates the profligate, unqualified grace of God.

The intersection of LGBTQI and Christianity

The author makes you think. Obviously many will read this because of the shocking and fascinating story. However, what Bennett successfully does is move beyond the narrative to deep and thoughtful analysis of cultural, religious, ethical, and philosophical issues surrounding the interaction between traditional (orthodox) Christianity and the experiences of LGBTQI persons.

I admit that some parts made me cry, some made me cringe, and most made me think.

    living with attraction

While noting the important role of sexual desire, the author makes a major point: humans can thrive without acting out sexual desire. There are many scenarios in which this happens.

Adding this to my home school curriculum

we will be adding this to our homeschool curriculum. thank you for a concise and clear view of what a true acceptance of gay celibate Christian both endures and finds joy in within the body of Christ. Because of your very important work, many brothers and sisters will feel the love of the body instead of the rejection. I hope my children's generation will do a better job of loving those marginalized by the church than my generation has.

Read it so you can refute it ...

The Joshua Harris of LGBTQI has emerged! Wake up Christians!

In this book, Mr. Bennett looks at Scripture in a tiny appendix at the end like it's an afterthought. Then, he attempts to draw credibility by his own story of self denial.

However, not all self deprivation is Biblical, nor selfless, but an exercise in arrogance. The key is whether it is at the request of God. So, this book should have been Scripture-filled. It wasn't.

YouTube Colby Martin. He comes to scary conclusions that Mr. Bennett wouldn't like. But he uses Scripture and applicable culture for 50% or more of the book.

    Outstanding!!!

Bennett shares his journey, his heart, his studies, his faith and his commitment to God in this an authentic, convicting and inspiring book. I personally was moved much more deeply to be crucified with my Savior in every aspect of my life. His story strengthen and encouraged my own faith, convictions and understanding of the love of God. Thank you so very much.

    A Must Read

I get frustrated listening to all the non LGBTQ people tell all their opinions about how same sex attracted Christian should live, and how they got this affliction, yada yada. It’s SO SO nice, and essential, to read/listen to the words of a same sex attracted gay person who had gone through, and wrestled with God. There are enough opinions out there from people who are talking about groups that are not their own. We all, especially in “the church “ need to hear, and listen, and love most of all.

Brave and Sensitive with Biblical Integrity

As much if the world and the church assign bravery to those coming out, Bennett's coming out as a gay, celebate take bravery to another level. As a straight, married, evangelical pastor Inwent From struggling with Bennett's stance on homosexuality to being humbles by hus commitment to Jesus and the scriptures. His heart for God, sacrificial lifestyle and love that embraces all of humanity is a challeging inspiration. A War of Loves is a must read for anyone longing for an honest approach to ministering to, relating to, or experiencing Homosexuality. That includes everyone following or searching for spirituality, and actually, everyone living in our culture.
