Charcoal the Elf, Book Two: Down Under picks up where Book One: Up Top leaves off. Charcoal, shunned and bullied by his fellow elves Up Top because he's different (his bizarre hair), is a classic misfit. Together with Trixie, his cousin and only friend, they travel the globe Down Below to the domain of human beings, on a fact-finding mission commissioned by no one other than the Big Elf himself, to learn why humans have lost the spirit of Yule, and how they might help restore peace on earth goodwill to all humankind, ultimately preventing the destruction of the very planet they all live on.

Reviled, bullied and excluded for being different, he sinks into behavioral and emotional issues, acting out and making things even worse. His parents and his cousin Trixie, as adored by the Claustown community as he is despised, try to be loving and supportive but nothing seems to help and things go from bad to worse. That is, until Santa and he come up with a daring plan, one which may help save not only himself but those troublesome human beings “Down Below” who appear determined to destroy themselves and the planet they live on.
