With their children living and working on the Trans-Mars-Jupiter Observatory, their home seems empty. There is so much to be done around Valhalla that Denise and Robert have to jump between tasks until members of Valhalla’s Vernean Lunatics and their families begin arriving to help. While everyone else has taken over the tasks, it is suggested that the couple try to relax. It was then when an idea came up to entertain the children by taking them to earth for a fieldtrip to what used to be Oklahoma to visit old family homesteads and the Heavener Rune Stone.

After returning to Valhalla from the celebration on Mars of the marriage of Nicole MacMurchaid to Josh Stoker, everyone in Valhalla begins to work on projects which were put on hold because of the wedding. A short time after they are back they are surprised by the arrival of Atounic Gaul and Atounic Mellia from the Interstellar Council.

After a year of peace, the remaining members of the MacMurchaid family in Valhalla are waiting for the planned first flight of the Trans-Mars-Jupiter Observatory form Mars to Jupiter and back. As much as the family would like to communicate with Kris and Tony, they know they will be busy on the TMJO during this flight. The flight proceeds with only two incidents which happened.

The MacMurchaids have a new possible threat to their solar system. It is first thought to be an anomaly passing through the Kuiper Belt at the outer reaches of the solar system. After some studying of this anomaly's actions, problems it has caused, and a signal sent to an ancient site on earth, it has become apparent that this new threat has ancient origins and possibly related to the trickster faction somehow. While waiting to hear from certain friends, the MacMurchaid family, their relatives and one friend look into how to handle what this anomaly or vessel might present as a threat.

The MacMurchaids and their group work on searching for facilities which the trickster faction might control. They determine that at least one on Lunar Sister might be such a facility and there are many on Brother Mars. Before they investigate any of these sites they must prepare and gather everything they might need. Since a number of previous incidents happened mainly on or near Mars, then that is where they must head to first. The group has a meeting before everyone at Valhalla gets ready to leave.

After a time of seemingly peace, events begin to happen. The MacMurchaids and their team at first don't know if the events are man-made or natural in origin. They find that the first event is of a universal nature. Since nature in the universe is not restricted to planets and much is still unknown about this type of nature, the team must proceed with caution. Will this first event and the subsequential events help increase the knowledge of how things work in the universe and maybe their home system? In the process of learning they find themselves rescuing others again.

After a number of events dealing with enemies which have tried to remain unknown, the MacMurchaids along with their relatives and friends have been working to uncover who these enemies are. Robert and Denise know from human history that these enemies are not working for the good of their fellow humans, but toward goals which appear to be leading to domination of the entire solar system.

Since discovering that there is a faction who works in the shadows, the MacMurchaids, their relatives, and their friends take on the task of bringing these hidden foes into the light. This won't be easy because the tactics they have shown the family that the faction doesn't care about life. Since there has been an attempt on all their lives, the group has decided to play a deadly game of cat and mouse in order to at least bring a few members of this faction to justice.
