Carl Holmes’ journey took him from the football field at Temple University teammates with our own Joe and Chris Possenti, to the NFL, where he played offensive line for the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. After his playing days, Carl began a career with the Philadelphia Police Department in 1990, working his way up through the ranks over nearly three decades. Along the way, he earned his law degree while building a career in law enforcement, eventually becoming a Chief Inspector and later serving as the Philadelphia School District’s top school safety official. In this episode, Joe, Chris, Carl and the gang talk about the Temple days. We also get into his time playing football at the highest level, balancing law school with police work, and the experiences that shaped his rise through the department. Rich has spent more than 30 years writing about local sports and is a member of the Delaware County Athletes Hall of Fame as a sports promoter. He’s the author of Delaware County Sports Legends , The Baron of Leiperville: The Life and Times of James F. Dougherty, and his newest book continues his work chronicling the people and stories that shaped Delaware County sports. We talk about his passion for Delco sports history, the stories behind some of the area’s most memorable athletes and characters, and what inspired him to keep documenting them. It’s a great conversation about sports, history, and the people who make Delaware County special.

Monaghan was a standout football player at Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School before being recruited to Penn State. He played offensive line for Penn State Nittany Lions under coach Joe Paterno in the late 1980s.

This episode is also special because it was the last one our brother Mike POZ was with us.
