Today we’ve got a player I’ve been looking forward to talking with for a while — Janae Johnson, Class of 2027, 5’9” Combo Guard out of South Grand Prairie High School. Janae currently holds offers from Grayson College and Webster University, and she’s also a member of the National Honor Society.

I’ve seen Janae in person and on social media. I’ve watched the high school film. I’ve seen her from the outside looking in, and I’ve watched her help lead her team on a playoff run. That matters.

One thing I said publicly on X, and I stand by it — Janae is one of the most communicative players I’ve watched. And I don’t say that lightly.

Yes, the skill set is there. Yes, she elevated herself at TABC. But if I’m being honest, the communication is what made me stop and really watch.

She talks.
She directs.
She leads.
She keeps people connected.

That’s leadership.

On this episode of The Watchlist, we sit down with one of the most productive young guards in Texas, Julius Johnson out of Bridgeport High School.

The Class of 2028 lead guard has been turning heads with his blend of speed, creativity, toughness, and poise. At 5’11, Julius plays bigger than his size, consistently pressuring the paint, creating separation off the bounce, and finishing through contact. He also brings a polished pull-up game and elite touch at the free throw line.

The production speaks for itself:
🏀 792 points scored
🎯 #1 in Texas in free throws made (246)
📚 4.0 GPA
🏅 Academic All-Region

But this interview goes beyond stats and highlights.

We talk about Julius’s journey, the work behind his game, his mentality as a point guard, what makes him a leader, how he balances academics with basketball, and who he is when the lights are off.

At OES, we believe recruiting is about more than mixtapes and offer graphics—it’s about truth, development, character, and fit.

Topics include:
✔️ Basketball journey
✔️ Skill development
✔️ Point guard IQ
✔️ Defensive mindset
✔️ Leadership
✔️ Academics
✔️ Life off the court

If you’re a coach, scout, parent, or player looking to understand what translates at the next level, this is one you’ll want to watch.
