We have first time guest Richard Owens who is an HLE team member and long time listener - so long that he drops a big money poser reference which takes us back to the old days.

Richard is currently residing in California and an avid hunter, learning most of skillset from a series of trial and error. Learning terrain has increased his odds, shooting his bow consistently, learning about bedding areas and food sources has made the world of a difference when hunting for mule deer, blacktail deer, hybrid deer, and bear alike.

Keifer, our resident vagabond, not only treks around the United States and other countries hunting and guiding, he is also participating in a Whitetail tournament here later this month starting October 30th. The tournament is in southern Ohio, two person teams, and 9 days to shoot the two biggest bucks - 1st place in this tournament takes home a whopping prize of $100,000 doll hairs. Sounds cold, but for a chance to hunt some good land and possibly win some money, we'd do it.

Luke and Sean talk about their upbringings and love for the outdoors - and better yet, it's the beginning of the season for numerous species in Wyoming where both Luke and Sean talk about what they are pursuing.

Archery season is well underway here in the southeast - particularly in Georgia. It's still 95 degrees and 100 percent humidity which really makes us question why we do this even if it allows us to get into the woods more than 30 days before rifle season.

In this episode Carter & Cole talk about the first weekend hunt here in Georgia. The heat and sweat really has them re-considering getting out into the woods this early. The boys also talk about what they accomplished with their food plots in preparation for the fall. Planting food plots are not for the weary - Especially when you don't have the right equipment and require a bit more manual labor.

The Pastrami Boys are so back and here for part II of the land management discussion. This episode is a continuation of EP 281 where we are talking about food plots, soil testing, and long term land management goals.

Too many hunters plant seeds based on the looks - this is not the right thing to do. To have a successful food plot you need to take soil samples, work with biologists, and buy the right seed that will not only thrive in your environment, but food that your deer will eat. Find a local feed store that you can work with and talk to the folks who have been hunting that area for some time.

Test different seed companies - See what works for your land, environment, and location. Different seeds thrive in different areas and pick your seeds based on what your goal is for that particular food plot.

The new hunting season is back and we are so dang stoked - although, hunting this early feels a bit naughty like we are doing something illegal. Folks out west are already chasing elk and antelope and us east coast folks couldn't be more jealous. We at HLE are putting the finishing touches on our bows, ensuring our rifles are sighted in, and finishing the ankle biter tasks that we have been avoiding.
