Welcome to Star(X) Podcast, the sci-fi rewatch show where we’re always Solving for Sci-Fi. Hosted by Mike and Jenae, this podcast dives deep into the worlds of science fiction television — breaking down episodes, unpacking character arcs, exploring lore, and revisiting the moments that made us fall in love with the genre in the first place. We’re starting our journey with Stargate SG-1 — traveling through the gate one episode at a time with thoughtful recaps, behind-the-scenes insights, and plenty of debate. But the “X” in Star(X) is a variable — and once we solve for it, it could lead us anywhere in the sci-fi universe.© Groovy Dane Media Art Science-fiction

SG-1 dies… and somehow this turns into one of the most peaceful episodes of Stargate SG-1.

In this episode of the Star(X) Podcast, Mike and Jenae dive into “The Nox”—an early Season 1 standout that flips the usual Stargate formula completely on its head. What starts as a mission to capture an invisible creature quickly spirals into a disastrous encounter with Apophis… and ends with SG-1 waking up very much not dead thanks to a mysterious, pacifist race.

The Nox might look simple, but they’re hiding some of the most advanced abilities we’ve seen so far—and they want absolutely nothing to do with war, weapons, or the whole “galactic power struggle” thing. Naturally, that puts them directly in danger.

    Mike and Jenae break down:

The team’s… questionable plan to take down Apophis
Why the Nox might be the most powerful (and most frustrating) allies ever
The episode’s deeper message about strength, violence, and restraint

Is this episode underrated? Is SG-1 completely out of their depth here? And is Jack ever getting his weapons back?

Tune in for laughs, analysis, and a fresh look at one of Stargate’s most unique early episodes.

What if the one thing you wanted most… came back—but not the way you expected?

This week on Star(X) Podcast – Solving for Sci-Fi, Mike and Jenae dive into one of the most emotional episodes of Stargate SG-1 Season 1: “Cold Lazarus.” What starts as a routine off-world mission quickly turns into something far more personal when Colonel O’Neill returns… different.

We break down the mysterious crystal entity, its haunting attempt to “heal” Jack, and the devastating way it taps into his grief over Charlie. Is this one of SG-1’s most underrated episodes? Does the sci-fi concept elevate the emotional storytelling—or make it even more heartbreaking?

Plus, we talk character development, early-series tone shifts, and why this episode hits harder than you might remember.

    In this episode:

The eerie crystal aliens and their tragic backstory
Jack O’Neill’s grief and what “healing” really means
Early SG-1 finding its emotional footing

If you’re rewatching SG-1 or discovering it for the first time, this is an episode—and a conversation—you don’t want to miss.

This week on Star X Podcast: Solving for Sci-Fi, hosts Mike and Jenae break down “The First Commandment,” Episode 5 of Stargate SG-1 Season 1.

What happens when an SG team member becomes the very thing Stargate was meant to fight — a false god?

We dive into the shocking downfall of Captain Jonas Hanson, a leader who goes from decorated officer to self-proclaimed deity on a hostile alien world. As SG-1 uncovers the truth, the episode raises big questions about power, belief, morality, and the dangerous line between leadership and control.

💬 In this episode, we discuss:

    How Hanson’s god complex develops
Carter’s emotional connection and moral dilemma
The role of faith vs. manipulation
