  • Weight Loss is Only One Part of an Ideal Protein Life Possible Transformation – Episode 110 – Pavitra Sinha
    Sep 30 2026

What happens when losing 125 pounds becomes only one part of a much bigger transformation?

In this episode, Dr. John Barnes sits down with Pavitra Sinha, Design and Communications Consultant for Ideal Protein, to talk about her remarkable personal journey with weight, metabolic health, and Ideal Protein—and why her story is about so much more than becoming smaller.

Growing up in India, Pavitra experienced a food culture often centered around carbohydrate-heavy meals, while also navigating the judgment and body-shaming that can accompany living with obesity. Like so many people who struggle with their weight, she wasn't lazy and she hadn't given up. She kept trying until she found an approach that worked for her.

Through Ideal Protein and virtual coaching, Pavitra ultimately lost 125 pounds and experienced dramatic changes in her health. Her visceral fat dropped from 27 to 9, her blood sugar moved from prediabetic levels into the normal range, and her Grade 2 fatty liver eventually progressed to no detectable fatty liver. She has also maintained the vast majority of her weight loss for more than a year.

But some of the most important changes can't be measured on a scale.

Pavitra shares how she went from fearing food to understanding it, from experiencing white-coat anxiety to actively tracking and advocating for her own health, and from worrying about what her body might prevent her from doing to bungee jumping, zip-lining, attending concerts and saying yes to life again.

We also talk about the part of transformation that doesn't get nearly enough attention: maintenance. Pavitra candidly discusses regaining approximately 12 pounds after Phase 1, what that taught her, and why ongoing education, coaching and support have been so important in preventing a small regain from becoming a return to where she started.

Her journey has even changed the way she approaches her family's health. After discovering elevated hereditary Lp(a), Pavitra used that knowledge to encourage her sister to be tested and has become a much more confident advocate for herself and the people she loves.

This conversation challenges the idea that weight struggles are evidence of laziness, lack of discipline or personal failure. It's a story about persistence, biology, education, support—and finally finding the right path.

Pavitra lost 125 pounds. But what she gained may be even more important: freedom, confidence, knowledge, self-advocacy, and an entirely new relationship with her health.

    Because ultimately...

    It's Not About the Weight.

  • Weight Management Is About Relationships: What 10 Years Have Taught Me – Life Possible Podcast Episode 109 – Wendy White-Stevens
    Sep 16 2026

What if long-term weight management isn’t really about finding the perfect diet—but about changing the relationships that surround your health?

In this episode, I sit down with my friend Wendy White-Stevens to explore what more than a decade of navigating her own weight-loss maintenance journey—and helping others do the same—has taught her about lasting change.

We talk about three relationships that can profoundly shape your success:

Your relationship with the scale — learning to see the number as information rather than a judgment of your success, failure, or worth.

Your relationship with support and community — why knowing what to do isn’t always enough, and how coaching, accountability, education, and the right people around you can make it easier to stay connected to your goals when life gets messy.

Your relationship with yourself and others — perhaps the most important relationship of all. Wendy shares powerful insights about self-acceptance, boundaries, allowing yourself to evolve, giving yourself permission to succeed—and learning how to experience setbacks without turning them into shame or defeat.

Because sustainable weight management doesn’t require perfection.

A difficult meal, weekend, vacation, or season doesn’t erase everything you’ve accomplished. The real skill is learning how to recognize what happened, learn from it, and return without punishment or drama.

After ten years, Wendy’s message is beautifully simple:

Lasting change isn’t created by never struggling. It’s created by knowing how to return.

Your weight may be part of your story, but it is not the measure of your worth—and you don’t have to write the next chapter alone.

  • Before Baby Arrives: The Fertility and Pregnancy Nutrition Conversation Every Woman Should Hear - Lily Nichols, RDN, CDE – Episode 108 of the Life Possible Podcast
    Aug 26 2026

What if the nutrition choices women (and men) make before and during pregnancy don't just influence the health of the mother—but help shape the metabolic health of the next generation?

In this episode of The Life Possible Podcast, Dr. John Barnes sits down with Lily Nichols, RDN, CDE, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, researcher, and bestselling author of Real Food for Pregnancy, Real Food for Gestational Diabetes, and co-author of Real Food for Fertility.

Lily has become one of the leading voices challenging conventional thinking around prenatal nutrition. Her work combines an extensive review of the scientific literature with a real-food, nutrient-dense approach to supporting women throughout the reproductive journey.

This is an especially personal episode for Dr. Barnes as his daughter has just completed her “low-carb pregnancy” using Lily’s resources and enters her postpartum breastfeeding stage looking for guidance during this next important stage of motherhood!

Together, John and Lily explore the powerful connection between nutrition, metabolic health, fertility, pregnancy, gestational diabetes, and postpartum recovery—and why the standard nutrition advice given to women may deserve a much closer look.

Which of the macronutrients have been over-blown in importance in the traditional guidelines for pregnancy nutrition, and which ones take on extra special importance for fertility, during and after pregnancy?

This conversation isn't about following another restrictive “diet.” It's about asking much more important questions:

What approach to nutrition does a woman’s physiology actually require to thrive during one of the most nutritionally demanding periods of her life? And what is the best approach to nutrition to grow the healthiest baby possible?

And perhaps even more importantly - could improving metabolic health in women before, during, and after pregnancy help change the trajectory of health for the next generation?

If you, or someone you know, are planning on getting pregnant, having trouble getting pregnant, or currently pregnant, this show has some really valuable information you are going to want to hear!
