Description

On a busy Washington morning, the stately calm of the White House is shattered in a deadly terrorist attack on the executive mansion. The president is evacuated to an underground bunker, but not before nearly 100 hostages are taken.

Mitch Rapp, the CIA’s top counterterrorism operative, is sent in to take control of the crisis and determines that the president is not as safe as Washington’s power elite had thought. Indeed, Rapp has made a chilling discovery that could rock Washington to its core: someone within his own government wants his rescue attempt to fail.

Hear Mitch Rapp, the CIA's top operative, battle global terrorism in more of Vince Flynn's political thrillers.

Commentaires

"Endless intrigue... Flynn mixes in a spicy broth of brutal terrorists, heroic commandos, and enough secret-agent hijinks to keep the confrontation bubbling until its flag-raising end." ( Publishers Weekly)
" Transfer of Power emerges in its sense of authenticity, depth of research, and almost seamless dramatic scenario....One of Flynn's finest skills as an up-and-coming young master of the genre of political thrillers is his ability to create a cast of compelling characters." ( Bookpage)

Great Story-Bad Narration

I've read just about all of the Vince Flynn books. Transfer of Power was one of my favorites. Mitch Rapp at his best. My only complaint is the narration. Nick Sullivan's version of Rapp's voice doesn't come close to how Flynn presents him in the stories. They need to use George Guidall. He does a great job and his voices match the character being portrayed in the book.

Loved It!

I haven't heard the other narrator to make a comparison, but this book was a good listen, and I could not turn off my ipod even during dinner. The only thing annoying was this narrator's pronunciation of Arabic names,... but ... who cares! I give it my two thumbs up.

Huge Fan, but....

Love the Mitch Rapp series, but I gotta say I'm not happy with this book released in unabridged format with a narrator other than George Guidall. The book is well written, but the point of an audio book is to enjoy a performance. Otherwise, I could just actually sit down and read the darn thing. I don't mean to be snippy, but Nick Sullivan just doesn't do it for me or the book. I've waited a long time for some of the older books to be released in unabridged formats, but I don't think I'm going to be purchasing any of the other ones narrated by Sullivan. Just not very captivating considering the character that he's trying to portray.

Classic Flynn, but where is George Guidall

Vince Flynn is hands down one of my three favorite authors. I consume his books like a hungry man waiting for his next meal. As the character of Mitch Rapp has developed over the years, we have all become familiar with his pragmatic patriotic views of life. He is the man many of us wish we could be or would be if we could. Our familiarity with Rapp is encoded in the consistency of his behavior and in the sound of his voice.

I have no idea if Vince Flynn envisioned Rapp sounding like George Guidall, but once he did and once we all connected with the master spy, the partnership between the Flynn and Guidall was forged in the mind of the listener forever.

As I said, I love Vince Flynn's writing style and I love his development of the Mitch Rapp Series. I am so pleased that we are finally getting full unabridged versions of his earlier work. But, serving up my long awaited next Mitch Rapp Book without the voices of George Guidall is like serving a hungry man dinner without a plate or silverware. I will eat because I am hungry, but I will remember when I enjoyed a fine dining experience and long for better times with each and every bite!

Vince Flynn gets 5 stars for his writing but the Nick Sullivan gets 3 stars for his [occasional robotic] reading = 4 stars.

Coming back to listen to the first in the Series!

BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) I had previously passed on the first 5 Vince Flynn novels because Audible did not have them in an Unabridged format. When I saw they did I jumped on the opportunity and this book did not disappoint. It's no surprise that Mitch Rapp has been such a huge success for Flynn because this was a great start to the series.

Plot: If you've read/listened to any Flynn books this does not deviate from the standard. Middle Eastern terrorists have taken over the White House and with the President locked inside one of the WH safe rooms the fate of all the individuals trapped inside is riding on the shoulders of an incompetent Vice President who's sole concern is getting elected as POTUS once the crisis is over. With heads butting between the CIA, FBI, Secret Service and Military this book has it all as they race against time to save the President and minimize hostage casualties.

Narrator: Not a bad performance, but unfortunately I've been spoiled by Mr. George Guidall, who narrates the last 7 books in the series. As with most audio books there are several mispronunciations of military terms, the only major one is; the snipers use a .50 cal Barret (pronounced BEAR-et - NOT - "barrette" - like for your hair). Not a big deal but a weapon that can reach out and touch someone a mile away should be given it's proper pronunciation! 8-)

Great Story, Terrible Narration

The story is one of the best Rapp novels ever...and I've listened to and read nearly all of them. The narration is awful. Besides some of the complaints that the narrator just doesn't do the voices well, I can be forgiving of that, the issue I have is that Sullivan is so out of touch with the story line that he doesn't even pronounce the words correctly. Example: Anna Really?...How about Anna Reilly (Rye-Lie) or how about that famous .50 cal sniper rifle the Barett (Sullivan: Bar-Ette - like you wear in your hair), instead of the Barett (Bear-Ett). Little things like that drove me crazy all through the book...luckly the story was so good, I kept listening.

Terrible narration - all the others ARE right.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you're familiar with Vince Flynn's books and George Guidall as reader, you will be VERY disappointed. If you have nothing to compare it too, then maybe. Sullivan's style misses the mark. I tried, really tried to listen but couldn't - and I'm a big fan of Flynn.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Transfer of Power?

When Sullivan wasn't speaking.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Nick Sullivan?

George Guidall.

What character would you cut from Transfer of Power?

Nick Sullivan

Any additional comments?

Go back to original review format. These questions are silly and stupid.

You can't replace George Guidall!

Although I'm a devoted fan of Vince Flynn and Mitch Rapp, I must admit I found the voice of Nick Sullivan to be annoying and poorly engaging. I almost stopped listening. Many of the characters sound like Smithers from "The Simpsons".
George Guidall does a much better job.

Poor narrator

Pay the extra dollars and go back to Guidall. Sullivan just doesn't cut it. I enjoy the books in the series, but only those read by Guidall.

Worst book ever

After one hour of listening, I just couldn't do any more. The narration is just awful. I couldn't keep up with the story for the voice getting in the way. It was like listening to a work training tape. Oh my.

Thrilling from the first minute!

Certainly one of the best audiobooks I've heard so far.
It is not necessary for the story to have heard the other two volumes, but of course you know the characters better.

enjoyable

Not as good, as the books before, though all in all i enjoyed it.

For all the building anticipation, the ending was quite anticlimactic. Didnt feel like the bad guys even tried to put up a fight. Especially the epilogue scene felt lackluster.

Exzellent

The book is perfectly read. The story is very American but always interesting, with some notes to the politic world in Washington. The action is always on top level. Whoever likes Tom Clancy will like this.
