Description
On a routine intelligence gathering mission in Tehran, Jack Ryan, Jr., has lunch with his oldest friend, Seth Gregory: an engineer overseeing a transcontinental railway project. As they part, Seth slips Jack a key, along with a perplexing message.
The next day Jack is summoned to an apartment where two men claim Seth has disappeared - gone to ground with funds for a vital intelligence operation. Jack's oldest friend has turned, they insist.
They leave Jack with a warning: If you hear from Seth Gregory, call us immediately. And do not get involved.
But they don't know Jack. He won't abandon a friend in need.
His pursuit of the truth will lead him across Iran, through the war-torn Caucasus, and finally deep into territory coveted by the increasingly aggressive Russian Federation. Along the way, Jack is joined by Seth's primary agent, Ysabel, an enigmatic Iranian woman who seems to be his only clue to Seth's whereabouts.
Jack soon finds himself lost in a maze of intrigue, lies, and betrayal where no one is who they seem to be - not even Seth, who's harboring a secret of his own that harkens back to the Cold War. A secret that is driving him to the brink of treachery.
Racing against the clock, Jack must unravel the mystery: Who is friend and who is foe? Before it's over, Jack Ryan, Jr., may have to choose between his loyalty to Seth and his loyalty to America.

Mark Greaney is much better than Grant Blackwood
What did you like best about Tom Clancy Under Fire? What did you like least?
Mark Greaney's Jack Ryan novels are much better than Grant Blavckwood's. In fact, Greaney is a better writer than Clancy himself. If Blackwood continues to write the Ryan series, this will be my last Ryan novel.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listened to Scott Brick's narration of dozens of novels. He is simply one of the best.
Do you think Tom Clancy Under Fire needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I'd love to read future Jack Ryan Jr. novels unless they are written by Grant Blackwood.

Disappointment
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A better story line and character development
Has Tom Clancy Under Fire turned you off from other books in this genre?
no, but now I am very sceptical of the Grant Blackwood direction of this series.
What three words best describe Scott Brick’s voice?
A good storyteller (but he need a good story)
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It continued the Jack Ryan universe, but not really any development of the characters. I didnt even care about the main characters that have been previously developed.
Any additional comments?
THe story became less plausible the further along it went, and the characters nothing more than cardboard cutouts. I have been very caught up in all the previous Clancy books, and even enjoyed the previous Grant Blackwood stories, this just fell flat. I did not even finish the book. I really did not care at all about how anything concluded. That has never happened before in a book like this.

Not really a Clancy Novel
Written like a piece of fan fiction. A real disappointment. The Greaney books at least felt like a Clancy work. This book completely lacks the authenticity of other novels in the series.

Could we lose the Tom Clancy banner ?
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Good story. A little disjointed at times.
Would you recommend Tom Clancy Under Fire to your friends? Why or why not?
This was NOT Tom Clancy. He's been dead for 5 years. Let Mr. Blackwood's story stand on its own!!!!
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Narration was good.
Was Tom Clancy Under Fire worth the listening time?
Yes, but remember, it is NOT Tom Clancy.
Any additional comments?
It's a shame the Clancy Foundation ? ( whatever) needs to keep attaching his name to these novels. He didn't write this, collaborate on it or have anything to do with it.
I for one will no longer purchase any NEW books with Clancy's name on them

This is not Tom Clancy and it's bad.
What would have made Tom Clancy Under Fire better?
This is my first review after having listened to many action\thriller Audible books. I have pretty much read or listened to all of Tom Clancy's fictional works. This story did not make sense. I did not know why the characters were doing what they were doing. It was not gripping at all. And it was very far removed from an actual Tom Clancy authored book. It really was bad.
Would you ever listen to anything by Grant Blackwood again?
I don't know. He didn't seem to try very hard writing this book.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator could have read a different book. He was not the problem.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Confusion and disappointment. I could not believe how simply bad this book was. I did not finish listening to this book, although I tried to. I
Any additional comments?
I do not recommend this book at all. I didn't even really care how the story ended. Skip it and I doubt it would affect the next book for you, if there is another such book. I like the Clancy books authored or co-authored by Mark Greaney much more, although they are no substitute for Clancy in his heyday.

Not the best in the Clancy franchise
Not even Scott Brick could make this tale more than average. I like Clancy novels cause I love the charters and things happen all around the world and come together in the end. None of that in here. This is Jack Jr. Story and all fought in the same place. John Clark"s character is almost a cameo. Sorry this story is more hot dog than steak.

Very disappointing
What disappointed you about Tom Clancy Under Fire?
Someone has apparently decided that Jack Jr. should be a bumbling, emotional wimp compared to past books. Based on the stupid mistakes he made, he should have been killed several times. It just doesn't compare the all the past books.
Would you ever listen to anything by Grant Blackwood again?
Absolutely. All the books have been great until now, and if I hadn't read every book in the series, this one would have been fine, too. I'm just disappointed in how the characters were changed for this book.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Scott Brick is the best there is for this type of book. I have lost count of all the ones I have listened to. There is no one better. He did the best he could with the story and the characters he was given.
What character would you cut from Tom Clancy Under Fire?
Seth. He was such an idiot that I was almost glad when he got killed, but it was too close to the end of the book for the story to recover.
Any additional comments?
If the author is going to continue portraying Jack Jr. this way, maybe Isabelle should be the star of the next book. She seems to be the one with the backbone.

The Jack Ryan saga continues forward
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend it as a good spy story.
What did you like best about this story?
The plot development in one. Of. Russia's smaller ethnically troubled areas.
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
Scott has a great talent to establish the proper intonation for each novel he reads. He would have been a great voice in the days of radio drama.
Any additional comments?
I have tried new authors just because Brick is the narrator.

Ryan's back in the game.
What made the experience of listening to Tom Clancy Under Fire the most enjoyable?
The storyline.
What did you like best about this story?
The different characters, and the storyline.
Which scene was your favorite?
Where Seth's past is revealed.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not an extreme reaction, though I did enjoy it.
Any additional comments?
Clancy may be gone, but his legacy, and the characters he created, live on.

Story a bit too straight/ predictable
The story is easy to follow and never boring - but also never „exciting“ or surprising. Especially the first half is rather unrealistic (all done alone by Jack? No backup pushed by John Clark) and rather „straight and flat popcorn movies“.
The second half gets better, but still no unexpected twists in the story - all very predictable and no „bad events“

Wow this Story is bad
Story Zellen like this makes you realize how great Tom Clancy actually was. All details in the story are inconsequential in the end. It is not about competent opponents messuring their skills but about Idioms blundering about having senceless Shootings in multiple countries. Jack Jr. is so ignorant the campus is surely vurned After this one.

One of the worst so far
Having read most of the old and new ones, this one is really weak. Plot is pretty shallow, jumpy and difficult to follow, Ryan is too bold to be credible. The Campus is in the background only. Can be skipped with no loss.

Not too American but real Tom Clancy style
Not too American but real Tom Clancy style in a Jack Ryan version. I loved it and especially like the narrator
