    Description

Roboute Guilliman has broken the orkish advance that threatened Fenris, but an ancient foe has returned to threaten the very heart of humanity—the Segmentum Solar.

    Listen to it because...

Guy Haley continues the riveting story of the Indomitus Crusade as it sweeps across the galaxy, still reeling from the opening of the Great Rift.

    The story:

The Indomitus Crusade continues its war across the stars. The primarch Roboute Guilliman has finally broken through the orkish threat bedevilling the sectors near Fenris, and makes ready to push on his bid to stabilise the Imperium Sanctus—but old and bitter foes stand in his way.

Kor Phaeron, the Dark Cardinal, threatens the previously stable core of the Segmentum Solar. Waves of rebellion instigated by his infiltrating priests suggest an imminent, large-scale invasion by the Word Bearers Legion. Worse yet, the Dark Cardinal's warriors are targeting the Black Ships, threatening to starve Terra of the pyskers the Emperor needs to survive.

Through this turbulent warzone, Inquisitor Rostov continues his search for the Hand of Abaddon. Yet when strange, miraculous visions are traced back to the astropathic relay on Srinagar, his quest is diverted—for the visions foretell hope for the Imperium, a hope the fanatical worshippers of Chaos will do anything to snuff out....

    John Banks is awful

story was decent. John Banks remains terrible. He has two voices that he uses for every character, and every charscter has the same inflection.

    I liked it

It was good, that is all. Not a robot just a bitter old man.

    Losing Steam?

Okay, so, Dawn of Fire part 4 rolls around and we're back to the characters from the first book (and then some), who are now all coming together for.... something? Guy Haley seems as uncertain as his own inconsistent pet characters. A muddled climax as always from Guy, who has done great work. This just isn't it. Not the best John Banks I've heard, but he's great.

    Not his best work

I love some of Guy Haley's books and some I struggle to finish. I struggled with this one. I've struggled with this series on the whole.
We're rehashing a timeline in a similar way to the Horus Heresy. The narrative is moving forward at a snail's pace. In order for this to work, more effort needs to be put into the dialogue and making the characters more interesting. As it stands, it's hard to care about what happens to most of these characters, with the exception of Cheelche. I'm hoping for the worst things to happen to that one.
Maybe I'm being overly critical and negative, but I found myself on the verge of skipping chapters of 3/4 books in this series.

    Excellent

It was great from start to finish. I have enjoyed the entire series. Hopefully Lion El'Jonson will return in the next book.

    Serviceably Solid Serial

While this is not near Haley's greatest work, there is virtually nothing flawed with it. Well written, engaging and interesting. His treatment of characters ignores the usual lack of dimension in this genre and presents us with well crafted personalities and backgrounds and, ultimately, relatability. Bank's narration is a cherry on top with a truly crowning moment in the voicing of a daemon prince that is sufficiently engaging to force you to listen to the passage again.

Not quite enough to justify a full-price purchase and definitely a candidate for return for credit, but an enjoyable listen none-the-less and a satisfying use of time.

    Terrible

cannot fathom how people can enjoy this abomination. None of the charcters are interesting. the story is moved at a pace slower then a snail. I've given every Dawn of Fire book a try and don't see this going anywhere remotely interesting. The narration is horrible as well. made the listen more of a chore. do not give this any of your time
