"Khristine Hvam's narration is as heartfelt as the story of 12-year-old Coyote Sunrise.... Both the story and Hvam's distinctive narration will linger in listeners' minds." (AudioFile magazine, Earphones Award winner)
Five years.
That's how long Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, have lived on the road in an old school bus, criss-crossing the nation.
It's also how long ago Coyote lost her mom and two sisters in a car crash.
Coyote hasn't been home in all that time, but when she learns that the park in her old neighborhood is being demolished - the very same park where she, her mom, and her sisters buried a treasured memory box - she devises an elaborate plan to get her dad to drive 3,600 miles back to Washington state in four days...without him realizing it.
Along the way, they'll pick up a strange crew of misfit travelers. Lester has a lady love to meet. Salvador and his mom are looking to start over. Val needs a safe place to be herself. And then there's Gladys.... Over the course of thousands of miles, Coyote will learn that going home can sometimes be the hardest journey of all...but that with friends by her side, she just might be able to turn her "once upon a time" into a "happily ever after."
Praise for The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise:
"If Katherine Applegate says a book 'just plain makes you want to hug the world,' you know there's magic there. And if you have narrator Khristine Hvam delivering a warm, slightly twangy performance as said book's travel-worn protagonist, then that's a listening experience not to be missed." (Paste.com)

"Sometimes a story comes along that just plain makes you want to hug the world. The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise is Dan Gemeinhart’s finest book yet - and that’s saying something. Your heart needs this joyful miracle of a book." (Katherine Applegate, acclaimed author of The One and Only Ivan and Wishtree)

Could have been better!
Thought the overall story was great but I was very disappointed with the curse words and some of the content. I wish that I would have known this story was going to include language and discussion about sexual orientation. I felt very blindsided by the character who ran away from home because her parents wouldn’t accept that she was gay. While there is a place for this conversation, I don’t feel it was appropriate to throw it in there with no warning. We would not have listened just yet.

So much love for this one
"There's nothing like a good book for bringing folks together."
-----Coyote
I fell in love with Coyote, her dad Rodeo and her cat Ivan from the beginning, and when we added Lester and Salvatore I couldn’t help but fall for them too!
This is a coming of age story a story of healing and fathers and daughters, friendship and family. I would recommend this road trip book for all ages not just middle grade.
I loved these characters I have been trying to find a young heroine like CeeCee Honeycutt or Starla Claudelle and I definitely found her in Coyote she is quite the young lady with enough sass and smarts to get her wherever she needs to go! She has a loving father but he also is running from things.
I will be buying this book for our library and I look forward to recommending it to anyone and everyone!
This is my first book by this author but it won’t be my last I like the writing and the characters and look forward to reading more from this author.
Narration by Khristine Hvam was fabulous she brought Coyote to life and all her emotions were perfection!
I knew that it would get emotional at some point and when it does it’s every bit as good as you want it to be. Aww you guys this ending was sad and sweet and perfect!!!

Heartstrings
Grief is both immensely personal and all-encompassing and it can make us do funny things. That’s why Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, are traveling the country in an old school bus; to escape the memories of the family they once were. The car accident that broke the family was five years ago and Coyote and her dad haven’t been home since. Their lives are filled with plenty of new faces and “no gos”, the term they use to tell the other something is off limits. When grandma tells Coyote that the park in their old neighborhood is being turned into an intersection, Coyote knows she has to get there before the memory box she buried with her mother and sisters, just days before their deaths, is lost forever. Will Rodeo drive 3,600 miles back home or will this be just one more “no go”? Make sure you have tissues nearby because this book will definitely tug at your heartstrings.
