Description

The New York Times best seller that's changing America's diet is now perfect for younger listeners.

"What's for dinner?" seemed like a simple question - until journalist and supermarket detective Michael Pollan delved behind the scenes. From fast food and big organic to small farms and old-fashioned hunting and gathering, this young readers' adaptation of Pollan's famous food-chain exploration encourages kids to consider the personal and global health implications of their food choices.

In a smart, compelling format with updated facts as well as a new afterword, The Omnivore's Dilemma serves up a bold message to the generation that needs it most: It's time to take charge of our national eating habits - and it starts with you.

Critiques

"MacLeod Andrews offers such an enthusiastically engaging narration that it almost doesn't matter that the subject of this audiobook is fascinating and compelling in its own right." (AudioFile)

So glad I finally read this book!

As an adult I still really enjoyed this book and found the principles it espouses to be fascinating. I'm going to be more vigilant about my food choices and am going to try to cook more often and therefore choose better ingredients. Co-op, here I come! -- Despite the fact that this is a young readers edition I still found it engaging and totally worth my time. I hope schools are using this. No matter what your age is, I recommend this book highly! MacLeod Andrews does an excellent job as the narrator, too!

Must Read!

With journalistic excellence, Pollan tracks the journey from plant/animal to food on your plate. The book is packed full of important information that everyone should know about their food sources. All of this is presented as part of an interesting personal story that includes humor and many complex human emotions.

amazing

I listened this novel in the car with my family driving for 8 hours round trip. My children are 7 and 8. We were all interested and this sparked many questions from my sons, especially about the slaughter houses and corn. We have begun eating healthier and more consciously. I am a teacher and I will be reading this with my 8 th grade class. I am looking forward to their reaction.

Boring

The writer was very obnoxious and boring to listen to. He listed a lot of unnecessary details and seemed more opinion based than fact based. I could barely finish it. Would never recommend unless I maybe hated the person.

A must read

Loved this book. An authoritive and thoughtful account of what should be one of The most important aspects of being human; what we choose to eat. And how this decision effects our world, for better or worse.

Great Read

Michael is such an amazing story teller. I enjoy reading his work. I didn't know this audiobook was for kids but as an adult, all of it is relative. So I'd recommend it for adults too.

a very informative, honest and enlightening book

this is quite a journey and quite a book. It cleared up a lot of things I had wondered about the food industry. never knew it would have such an impact on my health. I hope to try and understand the food industry in India better now.

accidental purchase

could not return after realizing that I had purchased a children's version of the book; now I grapple with the shame of my poor skimming skills every time I open the app
