Description

Lauren Shippen's The Infinite Noise is a stunning, original debut based on her wildly popular and award-winning podcast The Bright Sessions.

Caleb Michaels is a 16-year-old champion running back. Other than that his life is pretty normal. But when Caleb starts experiencing mood swings that are out of the ordinary for even a teenager, his life moves beyond “typical”.

Caleb is an Atypical, an individual with enhanced abilities. Which sounds pretty cool except Caleb's ability is extreme empathy - he feels the emotions of everyone around him. Being an empath in high school would be hard enough, but Caleb's life becomes even more complicated when he keeps getting pulled into the emotional orbit of one of his classmates, Adam. Adam's feelings are big and all-consuming, but they fit together with Caleb's feelings in a way that he can't quite understand.

Caleb's therapist, Dr. Bright, encourages Caleb to explore this connection by befriending Adam. As he and Adam grow closer, Caleb learns more about his ability, himself, his therapist - who seems to know a lot more than she lets on - and just how dangerous being an Atypical can be.

“What if the X-Men, instead of becoming superheroes, decided to spend some time in therapy?” (Vox on The Bright Sessions)

A MUST for Bright Sessions Lovers

I opted to listen to the audiobook, I thought it was only fitting since I fell in love with Adam/Caleb via podcast. I was so glad that Briggon Snow reprised his role of Caleb. This is a sweet background look into the goings-on of Cadam behind the scenes of the Bright Sessions. Made me relisten to the Bright Sessions. I missed these characters so much.

Even if you haven't listened to the Bright Sessions (highly recommend that too), it's still a great LGBTQ book for young adults.

I love Caleb and Adam even more now!

Ever since I first started listening to The Bright Sessions podcast, I have felt moved by the characters of Caleb and Adam, being a member of the LGBT community myself. Lauren Shippen just has a writing style by which she can masterfully articulate the complexity of thoughts and feelings in a way that makes them easier to understand. Also, James Fouhey and Briggon Snow added to the unforgettable experience of listening to this audiobook with their brilliant narration.

I never realized how much I relate to Adam until listening to this audiobook because his character and background wasn't able to be explained in detail throughout the podcast. Hearing his thoughts and emotions described, including his struggle with depression, made me feel validated and seen for the first time, which is such a beautiful feeling.

I have waited for this book ever since Lauren announced that there would be a book series based on the podcast. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank her, Briggon, James, and all the other people responsible for bringing this novel to life. I love these boys, and this is another story that I will carry in my heart always.

A bright sessions story

If you’re listening and Or reading like I am then you know this was worth it if you love the bright sessions audio drama. Strong recommendation and hope in the future we can get a more detailed perspective like we did with Adam and Caleb.

Loved this book!

I was a big fan of the podcast The Bright Sessions, which this book is a spinoff of. So I had to preorder this and listen right when it came out. Did not disappoint. It’s a cute romance mixed with coming-of-age superpowers! Great narrators for the two characters.

All the feels and worth marathoning through the whole book!

This book was worth the wait!! It’s not a continuation of the podcast but more of an in-depth look into the cinnamon rolls of the podcast! It was certainly a rollercoaster of awesome content. The pacing was well done, fast enough that the story progresses, without sacrificing the character development of the main focus of this story. I literally squealed with excitement when it got super cute, became super defensive when “shady guy” showed up, and felt great about the ending. Perfect for it to fit with the podcast.

Episode 50 of The bright session duet of Adam and Caleb kept playing as the background music (in my head) as I listened to this audiobook.
Thank you Lauren Shippen for writing this masterpiece!!!

Keep it green!!!!

Listened to the podcast? YOU HAVE TO READ THIS 💕

this book was amazing!! it pairs so well with the podcast, keeping the storyline of the book in time with the podcast is a great thing to have happened. I'm excited because I'm hoping there's a second book because there's so much that happens in the podcast that I want to see how these two react to it all.

the performance by the narrator's was spectacular! the emotion that they poured into their characters was something that kept me wanting more. the passion alone is enough to make me want to listen to more of their works!! if they can narrate this story with such emotion, I wonder what the rest of their work is like. chances are, I'm going to love it.
