Could Not Get Past the Narrator

The narrator sounds like a computer with stilted sentences and over-pronunciations. I just could not even get into the story.

Terrible narration!

It was difficult to distinguish one character from another as the narrator change between characters.

Main female lead is too stupid to live!

OMG, I can't believe I forced myself to finish this book. Way too much filler that went absolutely no where. Book could have been cut in half and it would have been a little better. Peyton (female lead) starts off being a royal B..... and her husband (Ben) is a total winey wimp. I just don't know if they are supposed to come across that way in the book or the narrator did a horrible job acting out the scenes. They are going through a divorce, but are still on friendly terms. She is so unbelievably mean to him and he just takes it and mopes. Little more than half way through the book they started to comprise and work together. There are way too many things to list on how unbelievably stupid Peyton is and Ben wasn't much smarter than she was either. I'll list only 2 out of probably 20 dumb actions. They're super strapped for money, Peyton doesn't have a job and Ben lost his job half way through the book. Peyton found priceless works of art, first edition novels worth a fortune, and again, priceless furs in a closet but they don't even think of selling them or even getting them appraised. What if the house burned down, hello, insurance should be put on everything since the author told us several times everything was PRICELESS! SELL ONE THING at least, BUT NOPE never gave it a second thought.
The last completely dumb thing Peyton did, (SPOILER), the ghost tells her who her and her daughter's killer was and then Peyton starts to talk about the murders with him like she wasn't even told the truth. Carrying on a middle of the night conversation ABOUT THE MURDERS with the murder then acts shocked who he really was. The ghost told her she would be killed by said person. WTH?
The narrator isn't the worst I have ever heard but she is better bad.

Couldn't finish

The story moves fairly slow, it's more about a weird divorce than a haunting. The narrators voice was too grating, I couldn't finish it. Maybe without the audio but it's still a slow read.

Another Great Haunted House Novel!

I really enjoyed this book a lot, the story moved along at a very nice pace and really made you bond with the characters. my favorite thing is that the main characters really had flaws that any other person coyld have when going through a divorce. I think I had a little trouble with the narrator at first, she has a very unique voice. As the story went on though I really enjoyed the sound of her, and the way she was able to fistinctly give each character their own voices. It was not a scary book, but it definitwly kept me interested in the mystery and storyline.

Story was ok, if only the narrator...

I enjoyed this story, although it was annoying that the author sometimes lost the trend of who was actually the one wanting the divorce, and on the other hand the main character really started to annoy me by continuously repeating herself, but still ok! As for the narrator, she made it sound like everyone was in the brink of tears, or sometimes when one of the women spoke it came out as a male voice...

Slow start

I enjoy a good ghost story and the reviews for the book format were good so I gave this book a go. I had a hard time getting into it and found the main character, Peyton, annoying through most of the book. I finally became interested in the story around chapter 14, and the following chapters were enjoyable until near the end, which was predictable. This is a book I won’t listen to again.

Not great

Although this book was filled with twists and turns, the overall story was mediocre. Unfortunately it was made much worse by the narrator. I hate abandoning a story in the middle and I stuck it out, but her narration was painful to hear. Everyone sounded similar and on the verge of crying, and her kid voice was just awful. I don’t recommend this one.

Main Character was unlikable

The story was fine but this is the first time in 10 years of books from this site I have been disliked a main character to this extent. She bumbles through the world with no self awareness and at times a narcissistic world view that puts the lives of other characters in danger.
