Description
A chilly reception....
Caterer Goldy Schulz has been hired to host a hockey party. But the proceedings won't be all fun and games. Unfortunately, her client won't be satisfied until Goldy adds a hefty serving of revenge.
An ex-husband from hell....Patricia McCracken is certain that her obstetrician and her penny-pinching HMO are responsible for the loss of her baby. Now she is suing both, and she wants Goldy's advice on coming out on top. For Dr. John Richard Korman, aka the Jerk, is none other than Goldy's abusive ex-husband. Goldy knows all about John Richard's secret life - but even she is shocked when he's arrested for the murder of his latest girlfriend.
A dish best served cold....As much as Goldy would like to see her ex get his just desserts, could he really be a killer? Soon she will find herself sifting through a spicy mix of sizzling gossip for clues to a mystery that threatens her catering deadline, her relationship with her son and new husband... and even her life.

OK but not her best book
Not sure if it was the narrator or what, I didn't enjoy this audio book as much as the books I have read... Cherry makes a great Lady President on the show "24", but I'm not sure she has a career in narrating books! Sorry, I like her on 24, but didn't think her voice was that good...

Cherry Jones is no Goldy Schultz!
Cherry just has no feel at all for this character. There's no emotion or passion. What a shame!
But the Book...? WOW!

I agree thet the reader is not too good
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the other I have heard, I just couldn't get over that voice. I guess I will only get the ones read by Barbra Rosenblat

Couldn't put it down!
This book was very interesting, with lots of Ms. Davidson's clever twists & turns. Makes you want to learn how it works out. The audio books are great, so convenient to listen to while doing other things!!

I was less then impressed
Would you try another book from Diane Mott Davidson and/or Cherry Jones?
I would most defiantly try anothe Diane Mott Davidson book, but not really looking forward to this narrator
What didn’t you like about Cherry Jones’s performance?
She spoke too quickly and there wasn't enough character distinction
Any additional comments?
The music has to go!

Goldie is a different person
I didn't realize until this book how a narrator can significantly influence a character. I've always enjoyed Barbara Rosenblatt's interpretation but in this one narrated by Cherry Jones - Goldie comes across a little "even tempered" or less passionate about what she's facing.
My other comment is about the story line - I don't agree that protecting Arch from his Father's continuing abusive treatment of his ex-wife in order to maintain a father-son relationship was a good idea. Arch is growing up and needs to learn that women are not to be treated the way his mother was and is. I kept wanted to talk back to my Audible player about this!
As usual, the food preparation was tantalizing and I continued to marvel at how she accomplished making such wonderful meals in such a short amount of time.

Annoying Music
This is my first abridged version of the Goldy series. I confess that I am a book lover and a unabridged book snob. The first difference I notice is the annoying background music, not only at the beginning, but also at certain dramatic moments. I hate that. I think it really disrupts the flow of the story.

good book
the music was annoying. good storyline, and well thought out plot. the main character lucked into solving the crime, and again, spent too much time talking to the murderer to have a psychology degree.
