À propos de ce contenu audio
Written in the autumn of 1888, in the last months before his collapse, The Antichrist is Nietzsche's most direct assault on the religion he held responsible for the decline of the West. He does not attack Jesus, whom he treats with a strange tenderness, but what he calls the invention of Christianity after him: a morality of pity, guilt and resentment that turned weakness into virtue and made life itself suspect.
Against it he sets his own measures of value — strength, health, honesty, the affirmation of this world rather than a promised next one. Priests, Paul, the idea of sin, the "beyond", the ideal of the good and humble soul: each is taken apart in short, fierce sections that move between psychology, history and open polemic. The Buddhism he contrasts with Christianity, the Law of Manu, and the ancient world he mourns all serve the same argument: that a whole civilization learned to say no to life.
Too incendiary for his publishers, the book appeared only in 1895, years after Nietzsche fell silent. Read now, it remains one of the most compressed statements of his thought and a key to Twilight of the Idols and Ecce Homo. This new translation keeps its speed and its heat.
