    Description

USA Today best-selling author Loretta Chase continues her Difficult Dukes series with this delightful spin on Shakespeare's classic The Taming of the Shrew.

    This time, who’s taming whom....

Cassandra Pomfret holds strong opinions she isn’t shy about voicing. But her extremely plain speaking has caused an uproar, and her exasperated father, hoping a husband will rein her in, has ruled that her beloved sister can’t marry until Cassandra does.

Now, thanks to a certain wild-living nobleman, the last shreds of Cassandra’s reputation are about to disintegrate, taking her sister’s future and her family’s good name along with them.

The duke of Ashmont’s looks make women swoon. His character flaws are beyond counting. He’s lost a perfectly good bride through his own carelessness. He nearly killed one of his two best friends. Still, troublemaker that he is, he knows that damaging a lady’s good name isn’t sporting.

The only way to right the wrong is to marry her...and hope she doesn’t smother him in his sleep on their wedding night.

    Loved it!!

This is the best book of the year so far for me!

I loved the character development, the plot, the evil machinations of the villain, how those machinations were overcome, and the wonderful end of the book. This book was a lo-o-o-o-ong time coming but it was worth every minute of the wait. Chase does her usual stellar job of storytelling, and Ashmont is now second only to Rupert Carsington as my all time favorite book boyfriend. Ashmont is a drunken, brawling, womanizing Duke and is very hard to like. Chase not only redeems him entirely, she does so in a very believable fashion. He actually starts listening to people, and begins to make changes in his habits and attitudes, and that is the making of him. The story is loosely based on The Taming of the Shrew, but quite loosely. I do not consider the heroine a shrew at all, merely an intelligent woman who marches to her own drummer. If you are a fan of traditional-style Regency romance, you will love this one. Perfect prose, delightful humor, three-dimensional characters, interesting settings, and a really fun story to top it all off!

My only (tiny) quibble is that I felt Kate Reading's voice was a bit off, she sounded like she had a cold and her register was lower than usual and her normal spritely vocal energy was dimmed a bit. I especially noticed this in the first half of the book.

I highly recommend this book to fans of romance in general but especially historical romance, romantic comedy, sexual tension, well developed characters, and unexpected plot twists.

    Disappointed!

I had high hopes for this book from its reviews but found it very disappointing. I have issues with any writer who does not bother with very basic history research .. dukes donot get shunned out of the ‘ton’ except for dire circumstances, the are referred to as ‘your grace’ not duke ..
Additionally the heroine was a shrew .. not simply outspoken .. not exactly the most lovable of characters. There just was not much depth to the story nor the romance .. my first and last read to the author

Of the Dukes, I liked him the least. I was wrong.

In the first book, I thought Lucian was the least likeable of the 3 Dukes.
I should have known that Loretta Chase could redeem him.
I enjoyed this book even more than the first one. I can’t wait to see how she will go about redeeming Ravenwood next.
For now, I must go back and re-listen to the first book, so that I can then re-listen to this one.
    Bravo ma'am. Bravo.

    Fabulous characters and narration!

I don’t have adequate vocabulary to describe how much I enjoyed the writing, the characters, and the exceptional narration which brings it all to life. Loretta Chase never disappoints, nor does the narrator Kate Reading, but they both outdid themselves this time! I lost track of how many times I laughed out loud in sheer delight at the dialogue. Five stars is an understatement.

Perfect! Hero and heroine’s journey is well done

Loved the witty banter of the first one in this series. In this one, we get to see the Duke of A really earn his happy ending. Really liked seeing his thoughtful process of change, not just all of a sudden a perfect gentleman because of the heroine’s kiss. I like groveling as much as the next gal but he backed it up with actual work. Also was touched by how the heroine not only learns to trust the Hero but also how she learns she can trust herself. Now that’s romantic!

    Clever and witty

More delicious dialogue, clever and witty. I am looking forward to the next book and anything Kate Reading performs. They are a masterful pairing.

    Loved it!

Another great book by Loretta Chase wonderfully read by the talented Kate Reading. I was so wanting to learn Ashmore's story and was so happy that it picked up right at the *end* of Ripley's. I am impatient to learn about Blackmore. Hurry Ms. Chase and finish the trilogy!

    Loved it!

Ashmont is like an overgrown child, and the narrator's voice portrays that perfectly! I saw his potential in the last book, and he exceeds ones expectations in this book.

I loved the point system and how completely and honestly he values it and her opinion. I love the steps he takes to understand her. Very endearing.

    More than just a romance

I liked the first book of the difficult dukes very much, because it was so funny and entertaining. Yet it was not very deep.
This entry in the series was! Cassandra is fierce and intelligent. Lucius is not very smart, very drunk and not a paragon at the beginning.
But he learns a lot and we with him about the struggle of women and poor people. The book cites Mary Wollstonecrafts work.
The lovestory felt very sincere and heartwarming.
I loved this book for the feelings it gave me and for the many thoughts I spend on it even after finishing it
And god, I am so invested in the story of Aunt Julia and Uncle Frederic... I can't wait for the next book

    Entertaining tale with depth

Loretta Chase is now on my list of default authors. This book is often hilarious, full of varied characters, and touches on some subjects that give historical context and depth. The situation of women and attitudes towards the poor make for a more interesting story without detracting at all from the entertainment value of what is essentially a lighthearted read. I thoroughly enjoyed the ways in which the heroine and her mother dealt with difficult situations - hope I learned a thing or two about clever tactics! I had the audio book and Kate Reading’s performance is superb. Her name as narrator will recommend any future audio book I consider.
