Description
Born in the storm that doomed his father, Connavar grows to manhood among the mist-covered mountains of Caer Druagh, where the Rigante tribe dwell in harmony with the land and its gods. But beyond the border, across the water, an evil force is gathering strength, an unstoppable force that will change the world beyond all recognition. Haunted by malevolent spirits and hunted by evil men, Connavar sets out on a spectacular mission to save his people.
From the master of the genre, this is a tale of love and honour, friendship and courage, as Gemmell explores the intriguing worlds of Celtic myth and earth magic.

My favorite series but disappointed in narrator
I feel they should have used a better narrator. This lady made Banuin sound like the count from Sesame Street.
Now that I have gotten through most of the book, the narrator really ruined the accents in this story for me. I always had in my head Scottish and English accents. I don't know why she made the stone people sound like they're from Transylvania

Female narrator?!?
The Regante series is amazing! Possibly David Gemmells best. However, you have to question the judgment of using a female voice actor to read a book with primarily male characters. Adjoa Andoh has a nice voice and tells the story portion well. She simply shouldn't have been cast for this story. The Dialog between male characters is terrible! Someone with a very nice feminine voice just can't mimic gruff male warriors. She struggles to add so much base that the words come out choppy and all emotion is lost from her delivery. I ended up finishing the book because I love the story. I found it helps to think of the dialog as being so bad that it is funny.

Too many reviews bashing the narrator
Always been a big fan of Gemmel and was excited to see the Rigante series on Audible. However, I very nearly did not get this book because of the reviews of the narrator, which would have been too bad.
Admittedly, it took me a bit to get used to hearing a woman narrator of the many male characters, mostly because I am all too used to listening to men narrating books. I also realized that I have never had a problem with the numerous men narrators voicing female characters, often very badly, in so many books (what does that say about me, right!). I have to say that this narrator was far better at men's voices than most male narrators of women's voices.
After about the first 30 minutes, I fell into her narration, she did a great job, mixing voices and accents quite well and I easily got lost into the rhythm of her narration and felt the book to be better for her skill.
I am glad that I got this book and will look forward to Adjoa Andoh's narration over the series.

Why get a woman wtf
Why would you get a woman to read a classic that is narrated by a man in the story. I hope this wasn’t one of Stella’s ideas

Love the female narrator!!
I'm a woman who loves sci-fi and fantasy. I also love how this series is narrated I a strong storytelling woman. It's so rare to get a woman narrator in this genre. It should be applauded. I've Loved David Gemmell for as long as I can remember. I also love all his audio books. It's nice to have a variety of narrators when it comes to different sagas.

Great story, abysmal narration
Where does Sword in the Storm rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Little needs to be added to the comments concerning the story by the late great David Gemmell. I personally love it very much and was thrilled to be able to own the audiobooks of all his stories.
How could the performance have been better?
The above being said, I cannot for the life of me imagine who would have come up with the idea of having a female narration to this cycle of stories about the Rigante as being necessary or at least adding anything positive to the experience. Adjoa Andoh is by no means a bad narrator, but she is certainly the wrong narrator. Not only is the main character a guy named Sword in the Storm but the book is also a fantasy novel aimed at men. Yet, as I could eventually warm to her narration, there is one thing she cannot deliver: her pronunciation of the Rigante names and places and whatnot is to my ears jarring, cringeworthy and just plain wrong. These names need to be spoken with a gruffness and, you know, pronounced properly. Intonation and tempo is in any language an integral part what makes it so beautiful. Here, the names are just fluffy where they should be loaded with strength and portent. Has anyone involved in the production bothered to take a listen to the last book called Stormrider as narrated by Christopher Kay? There we have many of the names popping up again from the earlier books and he's spot on.

Great Narrator
This is a great start to a fantasy series with cheaters that have a depth that make them feel like true people. The narrator was one of my favorite parts of the book too she is very good at changing her voice and masking all of the chatter have their own way of talking I definitely recommend this audiobook

Why have a female narrator in a story of warriors
Any additional comments?
LOVE David Gemmell, Have all his stuff. I might not be able to finish the series on audio though. The voices are hard to listen to. I'll read the others. Please bring back Sean Barrett. He is the perfect voice to bring these books to life. Please.

What did you like best about this story?
Grabs you right away and never loses your attention.
Any additional comments?
David Gemmell is in my top 5 favorite authors and I read/listen to 300 books a year. That being said I read reviews saying the narrator ruined this book and I was hesitant for a split second but Gemmell won me over. The narrator is excellent, I get that she is a woman and it many who read this would have preferred a man but she does not in any way take from the excellent story. She is excellent and I will listen to more books she performs. If you do not listen to this book then your wasting money on another one....
