Description

One thousand years ago, a wish was made and a sword of rage and lightning was forged. Kamigoroshi. The Godslayer. A weapon powerful enough to seal away the formidable demon Hakaimono.

Now he has broken free.

Kitsune shapeshifter Yumeko has one task: to take her piece of the ancient and powerful Scroll of a Thousand Prayers to the Steel Feather temple in order to prevent the summoning of the Harbinger of Change, the great Kami Dragon who will grant one wish to whomever holds the scroll. But she has a new enemy now, more dangerous than any she has yet faced. The demon Hakaimono is free at last, and he has possessed the very person Yumeko trusted to protect her from the evil at her heels, Kage Tatsumi of the Shadow Clan.

Hakaimono has only one goal: to break the curse of the sword and set himself free to rain chaos and destruction over the land forevermore. To do so, he will need the scroll. And Yumeko is the only one standing in his way.

Wonderful Continuation of the Story

This installment was definitely a continuation of the previous story. I’m not sure it would really make sense if you hadn’t read the first book. We learned more about the history and geography of Iwagoto in this book. I loved how much more we learned about the characters in this book. I love getting the first person narrative from different characters as it gives you a unique perspective, and the multi-narration cast really helps to distinguish each section.

Frustrating and will not continue the series

A protagonist who is often described as cunning keeps making emotional, selfish, and reckless decisions. Kagawa manages to keep scenes in high tension but writes tedious scenes in those places of high tension that has me screaming for the protagonist to get moving and keep the goal and mission in mind instead of wasting precious time.
I have no interest in a romance that developed only because of proximity and not because of character traits, deeds, or actions.
The series has an interesting storyline. It is the stupidity of the characters that has me quitting. Continue the series if you like dumb luck, unlikely scenarios, and villains letting the heroes live while the heroes are vulnerable and doing emotional things.

A wonderfully woven story. One horrid voice.

Fascinating story. But the whiny voice they chose for suki's chapters was cringe worthy to the point of making me want to fast forward her chapters. I get its voicing a ghost but she sounds like shes crying as she reads it.

worse than the first one

the lore is fantastic for this stuff, I will say first.
other than that this book was underwhelming compared to the second one and has very random acts of love seemingly out of nowhere.
as I liked the first one this one threw me off of the series. might not try the third unless it goes on sale or something.

Need next book now

Julie Kagawa has done it again. I was not disappointed with the second book of the Shadow of the Fox tale. It reads like an anime and I just love that. The narrators were awesome. The characters were great. The story was amazing. The ending, OMG I need the next book now. Can't believe it's almost over.

Entertaining story, excellent production

The story was gripping and never dull nor predictable . Exceptional world building with balanced adventure and character building . Once you start listening you won’t want to put it down. The performance was as good as it gets. Unlike some performances you could easily discern who is who. The performance was the right tone to remain interesting throughout .
