Learn about the story of Robin Hood with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series. The story of Robin Hood is one of the most famous legends in the English language. The events of the legend place him in the regency of Prince John, when King Richard the Lionheart was away on crusade. This means if Robin Hood existed, he would have lived in the late twelfth century.
The legend of Robin Hood takes place in Sherwood Forest, near the city of Nottingham in the East Midlands, England. It is well known that Robin Hood and his band of merry men were outlaws in the forest. One version of the story states that Robin Hood was a Saxon who was treated unfairly by his Norman overlords.
The Normans conquered England in 1066, when William the Conqueror defeated Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings. Following this, William became King of England. He set about stripping the old Saxon aristocracy of their land and titles, giving the honors to his Norman followers instead.
