Description

Without the darkness, light has no purpose.

Without the villain, what would the gods do?

India, 3400 BCE.

A land in tumult, poverty and chaos. Most people suffer quietly. A few rebel. Some fight for a better world. Some for themselves. Some don’t give a damn. Raavan. Fathered by one of the most illustrious sages of the time. Blessed by the Gods with talents beyond all. Cursed by fate to be tested to the extremes.

A formidable teenage pirate, he is filled with equal parts courage, cruelty and fearsome resolve. A resolve to be a giant among men, to conquer, plunder and seize the greatness that he thinks is his right.

A man of contrasts, of brutal violence and scholarly knowledge. A man who will love without reward and kill without remorse.

This exhilarating third book of the Ram Chandra series sheds light on Ravaan, the king of Lanka. And the light shines on darkness of the darkest kind. Is he the greatest villain in history or just a man in a dark place all the time?

Listen to the epic tale of one of the most complex, violent, passionate and accomplished men of all time.

Terrible narration

His voice is bad. The worse part is his voice modulations for different characters. I am only not returning this audible because I got it for free. This does not worth $17 whatsoever.

Poor storyline and mediocre narration

I tend to benchmark fantasy fiction with my favorite author Brandon Sanderson's books and narration of the legendary Michael Kramer. Story: Amish gained a massive popularity for putting a modern take on Hindu legends. In Raavan his formula appears stale and a little underwhelming. He tries to shoehorn some modern technologies in ancient legends to bridge gaps and make the tales a bit more, say, logically palatable. He lost me in this book where he tries to humanize Raavan, showing he could have been a better man but society pushed him to be bad. He tries to rescue the soul of the mythical demon king Raavan's character in his book. He tries to humanize the character of Raavan as a brilliant person who just lost his way due to parental and societal pressures. His character of Kumbhakaran is also of a well meaning, childlike side kick for Raavan v/s the indomitable raakshas that we have known him to be. Amish is also not good at building a deep storyline that can be gripping or getting you involved in an emotional level. His style of writing is yet to mature and evolve from his earlier books. Narration: The narrator does a decent job at voicing the deep baritones of a manly man like Raavan, you can almost believe it is Raavan. Alas, his range doesn't expand much from here. His renditions of Raavan, Kumbhakaran and other male characters is very very similar. He reduces his emotion, assertiveness and volume a bit to match that of a key female character like Vedavathi which again shows the lack of range in his voice acting. tl;dr: A decent storyline and an okay narration to listen to while doing dishes or going on a walk. Not something you will yearn to listen to.

it's gripping and fast moving but story's lacking

It was a fun read. keeps you enthralled but it feels like the story lacks depth. Amish's way of incorporating philosophy in the story makes the whole experience wonderful!

Really well written fiction story! It does get little cruel in few chapters. Overall I was engaged through out this book.
