    Description

Twenty-seven years is a long time unless you are trying to save the world.

Nick was enjoying a late fall day, happily skipping his English class, when he was interrupted by a little silver ball. A ball that not only spoke, but claimed to be an alien artificial intelligence sent to warn humanity that a xenophobic alien race was on its way to wipe out every man, woman, and child on the Earth. The catch: They would arrive in 27 years.

Can Nick prepare the world for an invasion that no one knows is coming? Can he gather the people together to do what he can't? Can he move the sciences forward a thousand years in just under 30? Most importantly, can he finish high school?

After all, when someone asks you to save the world, there is only one right answer: "Sure?"

    A Contrived Weak Mess

There are so many better books out there that do this so much better. Save your credit. The reviews of this book are mostly bots or fans of the narrator Mikael Naramore. Mr. Naramore is an excellent narrator with a significant range of voices and abilities. He is the only reason I finished this book. The story is weak. The character development is so transparent as to be nearly non-existent. The main element of the story, Earth has less than 27 years until an alien invasion, becomes the D plot line behind so much meandering useless nonsense. A good example of this book would be, how to make cookies. However, instead of making cookies, the author takes you on a walk with his dog, cleans his car, vacuums the neighbor's garage, and just about everything but making cookies. The book reads as though it was written by a teenager in high school but polished by a sixty-year-old man with no real-world life experience. The dialog between the main characters is incredibly out of pace with how kids talk. The main characters of this story, four 16-year-olds, come off as boring, underdeveloped characters that in the end, you find you have absolutely no connection to. You honestly could care less what happens to them. That is a clear indication of bad writing. I am not going to continue on with this series. It simply isn't any good. Books like Fear The Sky, Troy Rising, and The Ember War are far better books in this genre of science fiction storytelling.

    A heartwarmingly innocent escape

    Upsides
The characters are interesting, if slightly stereotypical, the plot is unique, sort of like a combination of enders game and mysterious Benedict society. All in all, if you’re into lighthearted science-fiction with a dash of geopolitics this story is absolutely worth your time.

    Downsides
The characters strain plausibility in someways. They seem to have an almost magical level of skill in their fields. I also personally found it somewhat hard to suspend my disbelief surrounding certain aspects of the “science” so not the hardest of science fiction. Finally one other minor thing.
I don’t like it when books try to preach politics at me, but this book really bends over backwards to avoid doing it. I mean seriously how can you have an entire sub plot revolving around the US political system and never say what party various characters are in.

    Awful

Even an educated 12 year old would have a hard time with this. I couldn’t even get through the first book, much less the second.

Fresh air for a struggling genre

Have you ever wondered why the science fiction genre appears to be borrowing a line from Groundhog Day? I have friends that facetiously claim that all modern science fiction is either written by AI, or it's all written by a handful of people, i.e., less than five human beings.

We see the same tired centuries old plot devices, characters and recycled stories told and retold, with the only difference being the "futuristic" cover art and the occasional hidden gem, such as this book.

The entire concept of this work is new and exciting, it challenges preconceived notions handed down by hack authors for decades.

I believe that most people, science fiction fans specifically are just tired of "the future" seemingly being stifled, slowed and held back from us in reality. We've never been further away from a truly fantastic future that we can be excited about and for, something worth the soul shredding constant crises and horror that we are still, for some inexplicable reason, allowing to take place on OUR planet. We are so utterly tired, militantly tired of waiting for the future, when "our" militaries have been living the future of our dreams for decades.

This book gave me just a hint of hope, a little bit of inspiration to continue enduring this ruthless and despicable existence for just a little bit longer- if we can simply remove the elite from a top their literal ivory towers, perhaps we may see some semblance of a future, but until then, we are doomed to endure increasingly more ridiculous conditions, witness previously unimaginably traumatizing events and tolerate unspeakable and unfathomable evil on a daily basis.

I don't believe that we have an alien AI backing us up at present, because why would they be interested in a species of "people" who allow evil to be done in their name, without consequences? Aliens are most certainly out there, but we aren't even a speed bump on their quantum radar, and that is what it is. The ultra rich, and their pets in politics make us all look like uncivilized, unrepentant monsters who aren't worthy of being saved from anything, until our own worst enemy becomes something other than ourselves.

Please continue to write, your series has real promise. Use your growing literary bullhorn as a means for change and progress! Plant the seed in the collective mind of humanity that life can be better, that we can be better and that our lives do not need to be worthlessly short and wasteful caricatures of what life is meant to be.

Something tells me that we're crossing the rubicon, and sometime very soon, people won't be willing to play the elites' game any longer. I am hopeful that life will regain the lost meaning it once had, but that meaning was stolen from us by a greedy shadow establishment that is hell bent on our continued slavery, and not our growth or fulfillment.

TLDR; EXCELLENT BOOK, Wonderful start to an interesting series. Don't stop writing, you have serious talent.

    child geniuses

Too much convenience, the main characters are all childhood geniuses who all happen to go to the same school, I couldn't relate to them. Also, I don't understand why the young women had too break off from her family?
