Description

Victor Bayne has survived demons, ghosts, and repeaters. But can he survive a murder house?

Few people would willingly spend the night in a murder house, but Victor Bayne is up for the challenge. He’ll do whatever it takes to get a look at his permanent record, including going undercover in a townhouse where a recent death took place. Why not? There was no foul play involved, and as a psychic medium, he’d know if a ghost was creeping up on him. The whole “murder house” claim is just a product of a kid’s overactive imagination, and he’s confident he has the situation under control.

Until he gets a load of the smell.

Turns out, undercover work is a lot tougher than it looks. Vic misses Jacob something fierce. The subject of his assignment is a real piece of work. His partner has definitely got something to hide…and then the investigation takes a truly bizarre turn.

What happens if the murder house reveals itself to be more than just a schoolyard rumor?

PsyCop is an ongoing series filled with supernatural action and delightfully awkward humor - with a steady undercurrent of gay romance. It’s best listened to in order, so if you’re new to the series, start with PsyCop, Book 1, Among the Living...and prepare for a hauntingly good listen.

One of my favorite series of all times

I can’t believe this is book 10 in this wonderful series. I love the evolution of Vic and how much he has come into himself and his relationship with Jacob. As always the narration by Gomez Pugh is stellar and I enjoy listening to this series again and again.

So happy there's more to this series!

I didn’t do it consciously, but I am so, so, so glad I waited til this came out in audio. I had a total blast revisiting Vic’s world of crazy!

I am NOT a mystery fan but I was totally swept up in trying to figure out what the hell was going on! I loved the “douche” persona and how Vic would try to figure out what the “douche” would do in a given situation.

I also totally loved the interludes with Jacob- totally hot!

I am so grateful that Jordan is continuing to give us more from this series. It’s so captivating, and fresh and yet the characters are familiar and comforting because of our history with them.

It’s a win all the way around!

Add to it Gomez’ stellar narration and you have a 6 of 5 star audiobook!

Highly recommended – but it must be read as part of the amazing series!

Another hit!

Victor is an amazing character. He grows and gets wiser with every new book in the series and comes alive through the fabulous narration of Gomez Pugh.
Jacob is always appropriately sexy. A great read.

PsyCops 10

With the title of “Murder House,” I pictured an isolated creepy gothic mansion. Instead, the story is set in a 3-year old townhouse in Boystown! In a change of pace, Vic goes undercover with his new partner (don’t worry, not *that* kind of partner), Jack Bly, one of my favorite supporting characters. We also get to see a new side of Carl, who can morph into a very take charge guy, and Veronica Lipton. But, don’t worry about Jacob; he is well represented in the book.
Gomez Pugh’s performance was, as always, brilliant as he brings the characters to life. His portrayal of the snarky, 80+ year old Sylvester Hale was spot on.
So, get set for almost nine wonderful hours of listening to Vic, Jacob, and assorted characters in Murder House. Oh, and did I mention the Mongolian hamsters?

Better than Ever

I had started to listen to this book back when the audiobook first came out, but my heart wasn't in it, and I quit after the first chapter. I love this series. Gomez Pugh is Victor Bayne. It's not possible for me to read the books without hearing his voice. When I want to relisten to old favorites, the early books in this series are perfect. There are a lot of angsty characters out there, but Victor is in a class of his own. Still, as the series has progressed, Victor has grown. With Jacob at his back, he has begun to live again (which I suppose is where the first book's title comes from).

In Murder House, though, one thing becomes crystal clear. Victor isn't just in love with Jacob and going along where ever Jacob leads them, coping in his uniquely Victor ways. He's happy. In his uniquely Victor way. In Murder House, the circumstance mean that Victor and Jacob must be apart for a few weeks. It's hard on Victor, but wonderful for the reader. It was a delight, and sometimes literally laugh out loud funny, to listen to Victor wax nostalgic about all things Jacob. Towards the end there was a lovely scene between Victor and Jacob that I didn't see coming because for once, Victor didn't agonize over it (and over it and over it) ahead of time. And it was so believable.

As usual in this series, we meet new side characters who are as likable as our usual main characters. We get to know Agent Bly's back story, and there is a sweet teenager who teaches Victor to make heart shaped duct tape wallets.

The whole story felt like a gift to the reader. While there wasn't a lot of progress in the mystery of Victor's past, there was tremendous progress and so much to celebrate in Victor's present. I have favorites in this series: Among the living, Camp Hell, Ghost TV, and Skin After Skin among them. I am absolutely certain that Murder House has just joined this list. I may put off going straight on to Bitter Pill just to extend the book hangover a bit. Highly recommend.

Intriguing, Haunting, Hot

it seems like it might be difficult to fit paranormal haunting creep factor with intrigue and sex, let alone romance, but Jordan Castillo Price strikes again and it is amazing.

I was not sure where this story was going, but I do know I thought we had bottomed out in the rabbit hole only to see a other tunnel.

Just keeps getting better

Re-listen because the next book was released. I loved it even more.

How can the books just keep getting better? This was amazing!

With many series I get to a point where I stop caring as much, and only read the books eventually, and sometimes not at all. But, this series? This is not even close to those.

I try to re-listen to the series once every year or so, and because of that it took me a while to get to this because that is a lot to listen to. Absolutely totally worth it. It was wonderful to experience this as a whole, from the beginning to now.

As someone in a long term relationship it was also great to see a couple that has been together for a while still be so into each other. Not just physically, but missing the silly things that you both do without thinking about it, and, maybe most of all, just getting to talk to each other about things, big and small. I could feel the loss and longing Vic had for Jacob, and the times they ran into each other? Sheesh. *fans self*

I love seeing Vic come into his own, feeling like he really has more to offer than he realized, and seeing his friend list expand is the best.

I love these characters, their lives, and their friends so much. The secondary characters are great, even the animal variety!

I thought about re-reading this immediately, but the audio is releasing later this month so I'm going to wait for that because it's going to be outstanding.

*all the happy sighs*

Audio: as expected, Gomez Pugh did an outstanding performance. I look forward to future listens!

Great story. Great narration.

Victor steps out of his comfort zone to complete an FPMP assignment. We get to see a little more character development for both Victor and his partner on the assignment, and the plot has just enough twists to keep you guessing. As usual the narration is excellent.

Different but good

I love your stories and I loved this one too but it moved very slow. I loved the character growth that Victor went through, it was kinda epic for him. Can't wait to read what happens next.

The saga of the stay-at-home douchebag

After Vic gets a heavily censored dossier about himself from Patrick Barley (aka Nerdy Horn-Rimmed Glasses, aka The Assasin) Victor has decided that the best way to get some answers and protect Jacob from himself is to get his security clearance upped. How? Well, by training as a field agent, of course.

And he got his wish: he goes undercover with agent Bly (the former PsyCop 'guy with the hair') as a married couple to investigate is the former owner (who died on the house in her sleep) is still there, and then, investigate his next-door neighbour, who failed the mediumship test a number of times, and, even when it's a very expensive endeavour, keeps trying. Maybe he is really a medium? And... maybe he is more involved in her neighbour's death that they originally thought...

One of the funnier aspects of the story is the parallel between Terri-Ann chasing Victor while he is chasing Sylvester Hale. And seeing Victor trying to act as his character. And the way he bonds with Madison, that's truly lovely ♥

But, honestly, the best thing here is that we get to see Vic separated from Jacob, and working side by side with Bly. Sure, I loved the mystery (both of them :P), but to see Vic and Jacob missing each other so much, understanding how deeply their bond goes is amazing. And the same goes for Vic and Bly: they go from partners in a case (fake marriage!) to friends. And getting to know the reasons behind Bly's need to disappear is heart-breaking.

And Vic also learns that being undercover is not as easy as he thought :)

As always, the writing is superb, and the secondary characters are really great. I understand Vic's ambivalence when he gets to come back home, as he did really connect with Terry-Ann and Madison :)

And yes, you must be already tired of this, but Gonez Pugh is awesome!
