This selection from More Tales from the Greek Legends, written for young listeners by Edward Ferrie, presents the tragic tale of "Meleager and the Calydonian Boar", which explains how Meleager, the son of King Oeneus of Calydon, volunteers to hunt the infamous monster alongside a woman, Atalanta, a skilled huntress raised as a child by Artemis herself - but not everybody thinks so kindly of female hunters as this legend’s brave protagonist, and even success in their quest can’t avert this story’s tragic conclusion....
Benjamin Soames has a light, bright voice and a knack for friendly, intimate storytelling. His pacing is brisk but never breakneck, and kids will find it easy to keep up with this fast-paced, action-packed narrative.
