Description

Twenty-six-year-old Katie Macauley has placed all her hope in Hope Springs, a small town in the 1870 Wyoming Territory. But if she wants to return home to Ireland to make amends with her estranged family, she’ll need to convince the influential Joseph Archer to hold true to his word and keep her on his payroll as his housekeeper - despite her Irish roots. The town is caught in an ongoing feud between the “Reds” - the frontiersmen who would rather see all the Irish run out of town and the Irish immigrants who are fighting to make a home for themselves in the New World.

When Joseph agrees to keep Katie on ash is housekeeper, the feud erupts anew, and Katie becomes the reluctant figurehead for the Irish townsfolk. As the violence escalates throughout the town, Katie must choose between the two men who have been vying for her love - though only one might be able to restore hope to her heart.

Absolutey Wonderful

Would you consider the audio edition of Longing for Home to be better than the print version?

This is the best book I have listened to in a very long time and that is really saying something!!!! I am so glad I listened to this one, instead of reading it. Great Job Sarah Eden and Cassandra Campbell.

What did you like best about this story?

This book is not just a romantic story, although it has a very sweet love story involved, but it has a great overall story behind it. I loved the characters and the learning and growing they do throughout the story. I loved the Irish history, something that was new for me. I was sad when it ended and wish the author would keep the story going for longer. Maybe book 2 :) !! I loved the characters and would be interested in seeing how life plays out in their future.

Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favorite?

The performance was incredible and I enjoyed listening to all the voices she used for each character, none were annoying!!!!! The accents were awesome!

If you could take any character from Longing for Home out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Joseph. I want to know more of his history with his wife.

Any additional comments?

Best audio book I have listened to in a long time!!!!

GREAT STORY! COULDN'T STOP LISTENING!

Would you listen to Longing for Home again? Why?

I sure would. It was such a great story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Longing for Home?

Man, there were too many. I don't know!

What does Cassandra Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The Irish accents for sure!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did tear up a bit at one part.

Any additional comments?

So far, my favorite book from this author. It is going to have a sequel that I already can't wait for. The story is definitely not over yet!!!

Great narration!

Accents are spot on!! Very well done. Only complaint is that the voicing for Joseph Archer sounds as if he's always angry/harsh/critical (which I don't believe he is), as if he's always talking through gritted teeth. And that could just be the result of the narrator lowering her natural voice. It wasn't always misplaced given the storyline, but it never changed when the dialogue or feeling of the scene was more subdued and tender. Otherwise, everything was beautifully performed!! The Irish accent, wit, and inflection was fantastic!
Story was well written and the author really captured the feelings and sentiment of the era.

sweet romance

Great story and the performance was terrific!!
I was swept right in and had a hard time putting it down. I appreciated the history between the Irish and English. I am assuming the sequel has closure with Katie's family in Ireland.

Ended too soon, but it was fun to read

I truly loved listening to the Irish brogue of the performer. This was a wonderful story and I highly recommend it. I found myself angry for Katy and crying through her struggles. It easily touches your emotions and brings you back to a time when prejudice was just a way of life. My only complaint is that it seemed to end a few chapters too early. It seems as though the major question was resolved, but still leaves you hanging on two fairly major things (well three) that the novel hinges around. The main theme is answered...but I was left with too many questions. I still highly recommend reading it and I'll definitely check out other books by the author. She's a very talented writer.

A sweet love story.

Good character development and a nice clean love story. I have a soft spot for the Irish accent. The end left me wanting to read the sequel.

love it

I loved it. I can't wait to read the rest. It made me realize just how heated racism was in the 1800's.

Irresistible

I did not want to stop listening! This captured my heart and kept my attention from beginning to end. I love the characters. I love that an author chose the conflict, or tension to be something other than miscommunication, or misunderstanding. I love their candor. I love the rich Irish culture. I love Katie's spunk, yet her tender heart. So many things to love. Highly recommend.

Plot a bit weak

Good narration, but story was a bit weak. I kept waiting for something to really happen. There is lots of potential for development (I actually did not realize this was the first of a series when I started it.) However, I did not find this first instalment sufficiently gripping
to know if I want to continue with the series. Some things in the plot seemed a bit idiotic and our heroine was at times very annoying and her character barely developed at all until right at the end of the book. I like to feel more engaged, rather than constantly saying when is the real plot going to kick in.
