The wife of a prominent local judge is shot and killed on Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett's turf. Typical middle west american thriller, the story has well-planted characters: a judge seemingly feeling he is god on earth, the clever and honest ranger the outlier living with his falcons, the ambitious, stupid and stubborn sheriff…. A well-written story with few unexpected events.
