Great enjoyment
An enthusiastic and highly enjoyable second prequel book.
I appreciate the reader, but the recording keeps varying, the tone changes abruptly between sessions, and this is quite disappointing for such a high end work. This did take me out of the story regularly. A problem with the whole series is the lack of pauses when the characters and places change, which makes makes it impossible to adapt and forces your brain to guess if there is a change of settings.
However, this does not take away from a grandiose story, that, even if it's not up to the Following books, is quite lively and enjoyable. One detail that leaves me wondering is what amounts to a stereotypical obsession of the author for heterosexual sex. It seems quite excessive and limiting. It's too bad.

The book is great! audio issues tho.
The performance of John Lee is again, on point, but it's plagued by low volume and some weird production decisions that don't allow it to reach its full potential

Great read

This was my first science fiction read, Pandora's Star being Part 1 of the story. Well written story line, paced nicely, all the elements, plots and sub-plots along with the characters brought together perfectly. I would highly recommend this book, and have just bought another, The Void Triology. Really great from start to finish.
The reading by John Lee is utterly brilliant, as usual. I lost count of the different characters, and John Lee gave each one a different distinguishable character and accent. Without being told which character was speaking, you knew.
After many books read by him, I am still in awe of his talent.

Great story - bad editing
The sound levels of the recordings differs a lot between sessions and they have not spent a calorie trying to remedy this. The writing and story is really great and Hamilton at his best

Amazing scale and scope
These stories are written in an incredible and enormous imagined universe
The only issue is a slightly mortifying thread of middle-aged phantasies involving “harems” and “sassy” young women with an interest in older men

It's hard
I love the concepts but it's so loooooong, I actually got a printed version and skipped last 30% to the end. John Lee is a great narrator as always

Engrossing Series with a bit of a Pacing Issue
Loved both books and binged them. Hamilton’s imagination and attention to detail is second to none, even if Judas Unchained faces some pacing issues leading up to and throughout the finale.
I quite enjoyed the narration, but for some reason they frequently spliced in lower quality bits seemingly recorded from someone’s bedroom. Someone needs their inserts overhauled.
Right, off I go to start the void trilogy.

Sehr spannend
Wer auf Transhumanismus und schöne neue Ideen in der SF steht wird dieses Hörbuch lieben. Ich war sehr traurig als es dann leider zu Ende war. Es ist nicht ganz so hart wie die Romane von Richard K. Morgan aber ähnlich packend.

Langatmige Daueraction
Der zweite Teil der Commonwealth Saga kann leider mit dem ersten nicht mithalten. Zu viel Geballer und bodengebundene Action, die zunehmend repetitiv ist. Der Sense of Wonder fehlt. Die spannenden Ausgangspunkte im ersten Teil erfahren nur Wiederholungen, die einzelnen Kapitel sind oft langatmig, bringen die Handlung kaum voran und ähneln einander stark. Schade.

Komplex und unterhaltsam.
Wem das erste Buch 'Pandora's Star' gefallen hat, der muss auch dieses hören, da es eine zusammenhängende Geschichte ist.
Die Geschichten der meisten Charaktere aus dem ersten Buch werden fortgeführt und ein paar neue kommen dazu. Wie das so ist, wenn man erstmal mitten in einem Hamilton steckt, fällt es irgendwann schwer, den Überblick zu behalten und das "Who is who?" 100%ig zu behalten. Mein Tipp hier ist, einfach weiterhören und nach Ende Zusammenfassungen lesen oder den Austausch mit anderen Lesern suchen. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, da man immer etwas mitnimmt.
Tolle Sprecherleistung von John Lee, wie immer. Es ist einfach eine Freude, ihm zuzuhören. Ich habe schon gewitzelt, dass man aus so manchen Begriffen, die ständig auftauchen, ein Trinkspiel machen könnte.
Im gleichen Universum gibt es noch eine Vielzahl weiterer Romane, die ich nach und nach hören will. Das spricht für die Weltschöpfungsqualitäten des Autors, bei aller Komplexität.

Super Hörbuch seltsame Vertonung
Ich habe alle Bücher von Peter F. Hamilton gelesen/gehört aber hier habe ich ein Problem mit der Vertonung. Immer wieder wird der Sprecher durch eine dumpfe Tonspur schlechterer qualität ausgetauscht. Es ist die gleiche gute Stimme nur finde ich es extrem Irritierend wenn der Ton sich plötzlich ändert.
Ich möchte da jetzt nicht zu Viel Kritik äußern da bei so einem Goliath von Hörbuch natürlich mehrere Aufnahmesessions notwendig sind aber diese Wechsel sind nur mir geändertem Aufnahmeequipment zu erklären.

Das pompöse Ende
Was hat Ihnen das Hörerlebnis von Judas Unchained besonders unterhaltsam gemacht?
Wie ich es nur bei wenigen Anderen Hörbüchern gesehen habe, versteht es Hamilton, Charaktere so handlen zu lassen, dass es einfach nur natürlich scheint, dass sie sich so verhalten wie sie es tun. Es macht das ganze viel weniger zu einer Geschichte als zu einer Darstellung, der man folgen und die man glauben kann während sie sich wie ganz natürlich vor einem entfaltet.
Welche Figur hat Ihnen am besten gefallen? Warum?
Die beste Figur ist auf jeden Fall der Detective. Die Unnachgiebigkeit, mit der sie ihrem Gewissen folgt, stellt sie heraus, sogar noch über all die anderen wunderbar geschreibenen Charkatere der Serie.
Welche Figur hat John Lee Ihrer Meinung nach am besten interpretiert?
Erneut, die Frau Detective. Genial.
Gab es im Hörbuch einen Moment, der Sie ganz besonders berührt hat?
Alle Szenen in denen Ossi die Sache in die Hand nimmt sind genial und jagen einem eine Gänsehaut ein.
Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?
Naja, auf jedenfall, sollte man vor dem Hören dieses Buches den Ersten Teil der Reihe kennen und sich nicht davon abschrecken lassen, dass am Anfang all die Charaktere so weit von eineander entfernt wirken und in solchem Detail beschrieben werden.

A long but really good ending to a great story
What a long and great story. Even though it was a bit long in some places, I really enjoyed this epic story with all the wonderful places and characters. As an audiobook read by John Lee it was great. I'm not sure if I would have been able to read it. :-)
