    Description

Long before Earth began conquering her neighboring stars, Legion Varus was deployed on Tau Ceti. Valuable and highly illegal treasures were stolen during the campaign, but McGill never gave it a second thought.

The Tau haven’t forgotten him, however. For decades, they’ve hunted and plotted, and at last they’ve found the pirate who robbed them. Tau agents invade Earth seeking revenge and profit. Caught up in violence and intrigue, McGill is given the task of finding out where the loot has gone and who was responsible for the theft in the first place. The hunt takes Legion Varus to Ice World, a distant planet with an inhospitable climate.

    Again and again

It's like this author has no idea how to write a plot twist without it being McGill getting in trouble for something thats not his fault. I mean c'mon. How old is this guy and he hasnt figured out how to record shady dealings on his tapper? I still enjoy the books though. Just wish he'd come up with some new material. theres so many other things that can happen in the whole wide universe other than him being on trial or in trouble with the brass.

A Dying Series from the Undying Mercs

More of the same with little to no plot progression. James continues to use the same tips, tricks and techniques to get out of the same blackmail, double cross situations. The series is getting more stale each book and I'm starting to think it's never going to end or come to a conclusion. There is no progression of the story of the Galactics. Earth doesn't seem to be getting ahead. James has little to no character growth anymore. Started so strong. Ending (hopefully) weakly.

It’s What I Loved About Comic Books!

Comic books never end. Well, until they do but most last month after month for years. Because they’re more about the characters than just the stories. Same applies here! McGill is a character I never get tired of. What will happen to him next? Oh hell no! There’s no way he can get out of this mess! Wow! He got out! There’s also a story it’s been building up to since the first book, in my opinion: Earth must rebel against the Galactics and being the battle to them. Unless they want to be pawns of theirs forever. Or maybe they do being the fight to the Galactics and end up being one of the Empires rulers such as the Mogwa and Skay are? Either way as long as McGill keeps avoiding a perming I’m game for more!

    James use the Plot Device!!!

Book 16 and James still does not use his Tapper. This INABILITY has become a plot CRUTCH! Through this entire book(nay series) you would have thought he would have gathered proof and black mail material, but nope! However (spoiler), he manages to record something when his hands are restrained and under guard? Come on! The Tapper is such a major plot device of this series. The fact he still is ignorant of using it, Is in itself criminal! That is why he should be "Permed". Women still fall for his awful flirting, and he still trust Galina when he shouldn't. Larson I know you turn these books out like they are Manga in the "Weekly Shonen Jump" , slow it down and put more thought into it or finish it. At this point One Piece has more creativity. Book 16, in the series it has been decades, give him some maturity and wisdom. Thank the gods this series has an amazing narrator!

This maybe my last go around with this series.

"Once again, familiar but not boring. Like a Momma's Sunday dish."

I am 30 minutes in and already grinning ear to ear. Not only does B.V. Larson correctly use the word simp, but it's not even cringe. Keep doing you thing, I'll buy every last book.

And props to Mark Boyett, you give life to the characters. It's brilliant.

The Taco Bell of book series

Invading a claver planet, Squanto trying to kill him, graves mad at him for no reason, Carlos still here (?), galina mad he has another girl friend. Its the same book as the last book basically and the one before that. I don’t know if the author has been on vacation for the last few books and paying some poor college intern to ghost write these for him but they’ve gotten boring.

Is this the start to the decline of the series?

I've been a long time fan of the series. I've listened to all 16 books in the series. This one however left me a little boared if I'm honest. While McGill's exploits are same same through most books in the series, it feels as if the character in the story is not being developed. The story needs to get moving in a new direction because the formula is starting to get old. For most of the books it's been, new challenge, new drama, McGill to the rescue, Galina burns him at every opportunity, he gets crafty, he saves the day, hardly gets credit, and Galina and James and the story drinking beer on his porch and getting naked. The same characters are always around, the same issues etc....B.V Larson needs to either tank the series or start growing the series in a new direction. Basically, change the formula, it's getting boring.

    Like an old friend

By this point if you're still listening you know what to expect. I enjoyed how previous world's are worked in and getting to meet the family of one of the more prominent members of the main cast was interesting and fun. If you've stuck around this long there's no reason to bail out now.

    plot plot plot

often through this series there has been plot holes so large a stunt man on a rocket couldn't make the leap.
From people who are premenantly dead suddenly popping to events that happened the reverse of later versions to complete fabrication of events in lieu of the story as it was written prior.

I cannot help but wonder if the story was not marched into a slaughter house in favor of a check.

this book in particular could have cut out the filler kangaroo nonsense from about chapter 50 to the last couple chapters and the story would have been better off. usually as books progress they get better in a series but not in this case.
