Histoire
In September 1985, 19-year-old John Lindqvist moves into a dilapidated old building in Stockholm, planning to make his living as a magician. Something strange is going on in the building's basement - and the price of entry is just a little blood. I Always Find You is a horror story - as bizarre and macabre as any of Lindqvist's best-selling novels. It's also a book about being young and lonely, about making friends and growing up. It's about magic and the intensity of human connection - and a society's communal responsibility for a devastating act of political violence.

After having travelled west for weeks, the party of pioneers comes to a crossroads. It is time for their leader, George Donner, to make a choice. They face two diverging paths which lead to the same destination. One is well-documented, the other untested but rumoured to be shorter. Donner’s decision will shape the lives of everyone travelling with him. The searing heat of the desert gives way to biting winds and a bitter cold that freezes the cattle where they stand.

As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. But the journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. Noemí is also an unlikely rescuer: She’s a glamorous debutante, and her chic gowns and perfect red lipstick are more suited for cocktail parties than amateur sleuthing. If it had another name, I never knew, but the locals called it the Loney - that strange nowhere between the Wyre and the Lune where Hanny and I went every Easter time with Mummer, Farther, Mr. and Mrs. Belderboss and Father Wilfred, the parish priest. It was impossible to truly know the place. It changed with each influx and retreat, and the neap tides would reveal the skeletons of those who thought they could escape its insidious currents. No one ever went near the water.

Description
A compelling, eerie new audiobook from the internationally best-selling author of Let the Right One In.
Four families wake up one morning in their trailer on an ordinary campsite. However, during the night, something strange has happened. Everything outside the camping grounds has disappeared, and the world has been transformed into an endless expanse of grass. The sky is blue, but there is no sign of the sun; there are no trees, no flowers, no birds. And every radio plays nothing but the songs of '60s pop icon Peter Himmelstrand.
As the holiday-makers try to come to terms with what has happened, they are forced to confront their deepest fears and secret desires. Past events that each of them has tried to bury rise to the surface and take on terrifying physical forms. Can any of them find a way back to reality?

A masterpiece of surrealist horror
This is the second title I have read by Mr. Lindqvist. Let Me In was the first, and after that Lindqvist had my complete and utter trust, so I was not put off by the middling reviews here and plunged right into this novel. I was not disappointed. It is a slow burn to be sure, but not a word is wasted in its depiction of fascinating characters with rich and tragic backstories, and the strange and completely original nightmare they find themselves in. There are no easy answers about how they have found themselves in their desperate situation, nor for the mechanics of this new terrible world, but there are just enough breadcrumbs to savor and reflect upon as you are taken through a wild and nailbiting existential ride. There were several instances where I had to pause the story and digest the next bleak turn of events, and at least one part towards the end where I felt I might not be able to take it anymore. But I'm glad I stuck with it, as things don't go quite as poorly as I feared. There are certainly lighter moments, especially the sections where the story is told from the perspective of a dog, As the story shifts from character to character, your investment in them and their predicament grows, and each development is felt viscerally. Kudos to the narrator for clearly delineating each character's voice and attitude.

WOW! Five stars all around!!!
Okay this book was incredible. Genuinely I think it has to be one of my favorite ever. I was so confused in the best way. I'm still confused?? But not mad about it. The author creates such a picture in my mind with the way he writes. I was dying to get this book finished to figure out what was going on, but sad to be done with it. The characters are all so dynamic and my favorite part was the flashbacks to their past- getting to understand who they really are and learning the things that they have done or had happen to them. I can't wait to get into some of John Lindqvist's other books! FIVE. STARS. !!!!

Liked it but confused
Lindquist has an interesting style. I like his development of characters but I had problems connecting the dots. I never really understood what was happening in the end but still worth a listen. When you figure it out let me know!

A Work of Art!
Loved this book. Very creative and surreal. I admire Lindqvist for bringing this world into reality in a way that I haven't seen before. This work is true artistry in my opinion. This is art, creativity, conceptual ideology, interpretation of that which cannot be known. My new favorite book, along with Let The Right One In. Thank you Lindqvist, for this beautiful work you brought forth, in all of its originality.

Couldn't finish it
Bunch of people in an unknown situation, having flashbacks to bad times in their lives as they try to figure out what's going on. That's it... not much else beyond descriptions of terrible outcomes and veiled references to reincarnation. Horror has to have some kind of progression or impact to be effective and after chapters and chapters of not much happening, with occasional stings which lose flavor over time, the sheer banality of it puts one to sleep.

What the hell?
Don’t even get this. I feel like the plot was a once-interesting idea and the author just gave up on developing it. They never really explained why all of this was happening. It’s just way too weird with no reason for it.
