    Description

Number one New York Times Best Seller

A definitive compendium of food wisdom

Eating doesn't have to be so complicated. In this age of ever-more elaborate diets and conflicting health advice, Food Rules brings welcome simplicity to our daily decisions about food. Written with clarity, concision, and wit that has become best-selling author Michael Pollan's trademark, this indispensable handbook lays out a set of straightforward, memorable rules for eating wisely, minute by minute, accompanied by a concise explanation. It's an easy-to-use guide that draws from a variety of traditions, suggesting how different cultures through the ages have arrived at the same enduring wisdom about food. Whether at the supermarket or an all-you-can-eat buffet, this is the perfect guide for anyone who ever wondered, "What should I eat?"

"In the more than four decades that I have been reading and writing about the findings of nutritional science, I have come across nothing more intelligent, sensible, and simple to follow than the 64 principles outlined in a slender, easy-to-digest new book called Food Rules: An Eater's Manual, by Michael Pollan." (Jane Brody, The New York Times)

"The most sensible diet plan ever? We think it's the one that Michael Pollan outlined a few years ago: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." So we're happy that in his little new book, Food Rules, Pollan offers more common-sense rules for eating: 64 of them, in fact, all thought-provoking and some laugh-out-loud funny." (The Houston Chronicle)

"It doesn't get much easier than this. Each page has a simple rule, sometimes with a short explanation, sometimes without, that promotes Pollan's back-to-the-basics-of-food (and-food-enjoyment) philosophy." (The Los Angeles Times)

"A useful and funny purse-sized manual that could easily replace all the diet books on your bookshelf." (Tara Parker-Pope, The New York Times)

Michael Pollan's most recent book on food, Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation - the story of our most trusted food expert's culinary education - was published by Penguin Press in April 2013, and in 2016 it served as the inspiration for a four-part docuseries on Netflix by the same name.

Quick List of 64 Rules of Thumb for Better Eating

At just over an hour long, this fast and common-sense guide pointed a general direction toward better eating -in both the what, and how.

Such a short read obviously did not contain the subtlety of narration that made Pollan's other books so interesting. It was worth the hour and 20 mins it took to read, but to me not worth the Audible credit it cost.

A tasteful treatise on uncommon sense

I live in the world and I am subject to the constant barrage of marketing surrounding the promotion of food and drugs. This story may not be profound, but it is nonetheless essential. This book helped my and my family and was well worth the time it took to understand.

I also grew up in a Betty Crocker household and Michael's story helped me understand what that is, why that is, and the potential consequences of living that way.

    disappointing book by Michael pollan

I really like this author and have read all of his books. however my very disappointed by surface treatment of nutrition and lack of innovation in this book. there's literally no novelty in any of these 64 laws and these are common sense. I don't think the author did any research for this book. seems like you put it together just to make a buck.

    Food Rules Rule

This is the third book by Michael Pollan that I have listened to on Audible. He researches his topics well and narrates them with care and expression.
Food Rules gives one a plethora of practical eating wisdom.

    Disappointing 80 minutes.

I have loved every book written by the author and have read them all. This is not a book...it's a list of 61 common sense guidelines about food. Was looking for the in-depth analysis Pollan is famous for and felt like this was a way to make a quick buck rather than a well researched book.

    Makes so much sence

Love how the rules are so easy to remember and fun to remind significant others about!! I have to admit, I have always gone back to the way I was raised in regards to healthy balanced meals. In comparison, none of the "fads" have worked as well. I am more grateful to be living on a farm capable of growing my own food now more than ever. Thank you Michael Pollan

    simple and straightforward book

I really liked it but I was expecting a bit more. although I do understand that we should not stress about food and enjoy it, I was expecting that the book it would go a bit more deep. for example there is a food rule not to combine meat with starches as it creates bloating. so i was expecting smth of this level. as a European I already know and apply the things mentioned in the book, so it was not something exceptional to me
