Nick Bell? Not extraordinary. But being the most popular fan-fiction writer in the Extraordinaries fandom is a superpower, right? After a chance encounter with Shadow Star, Nova City’s mightiest hero (and Nick’s biggest crush), Nick sets out to make himself extraordinary. And he’ll do it with or without the reluctant help of Seth Gray, Nick's best friend (and maybe the love of his life).

Arek hadn’t thought much about what would happen after he completed the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its evil ruler. So now that he’s finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don’t come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next. As a temporary safeguard, Arek’s best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she’s dead.

Luc O'Donnell is tangentially - and reluctantly - famous. His rock-star parents split when he was young, and the father he's never met spent the next 20 years cruising in and out of rehab. Now that his dad's making a comeback, Luc's back in the public eye, and one compromising photo is enough to ruin everything. To clean up his image, Luc has to find a nice normal relationship...and Oliver Blackwood is as nice and normal as they come. He's a barrister, an ethical vegetarian, and someone who has never inspired a moment of scandal in his life. He’s perfect boyfriend material.

Description
Flash Fire is the explosive sequel to The Extraordinaries by New York Times and USA Today best-selling author TJ Klune!
Through bravery, charm, and an alarming amount of enthusiasm, Nick landed himself the superhero boyfriend of his dreams. Now instead of just writing stories about him, Nick actually gets to kiss him. On the mouth. A lot. But having a superhero boyfriend isn’t everything Nick thought it would be - he’s still struggling to make peace with his own lack of extraordinary powers.
When new Extraordinaries begin arriving in Nova City - siblings who can manipulate smoke and ice, a mysterious hero who can move objects with their mind, and a drag queen superhero with the best name and the most-sequined costume anyone has ever had- it’s up to Nick and his friends Seth, Gibby, and Jazz to determine who is virtuous and who is villainous.
And new Extraordinaries aren’t the only things coming to light. Long-held secrets and neglected truths are surfacing that challenge everything Nick knows about justice, family, and being extraordinary. Which is a lot to handle when Nick really just wants to finish his self-insert bakery AU fanfic.
Will it all come together in the end or will it all go down in flames?

TJ has better works. Micheal Lesley great again!
Michael Lesley was amazing once again. His ability to tell a story and bring the written word to life is stunning to the point you forget it's just him doing all the narration.
Like the first book this one is a bit slow till the end. Though this book you could skip to chapter 11 without missing anything or taking away from the story. TJ Klune has a gift for telling a simple story in an entertaining way. Unfortunately, his keep it simple style worked against his desire to pull in relevant cultural topics that are anything but simple. His desire to bring to lite injustice by the hands of the police felt forced and a hinsight thought that was poorly squeezed into the book every few chapters. It was a complete 180 from his last book for some of his characters to suddenly hate police and there was no character development to justify any of his other characters having a disdain for them. So it felt odd to have all his characters, who weren't the villains, bash the police over and over. Even the police officers who we were supposed to like hated themselves for being police and accused all their coworkers of being evil. IDK. it came off as TJ lazily injecting current events to be a pseudo "ally" of who he thinks his audience is, to being a toned down version of Firestar, his reporter vilian. I would suggest if you want to bring up an importaint issue more than a passing jab to put some research into it and have some character development so it betters your story and doesn't come off as a soft Twitter rant.

Even better than the first book
The end had me *fuming* but the epilogue(s) made up for it in a big way. Ugh these books are so good! Absolutely hilarious, so heartwarming and fantastically queer. I can't wait to see what happens to Nick and his friends next.

Really well read and a great story to boot! Better than book one with a great cliffhanger at the end. My thirteen year old and I really enjoyed the ride!

Bringing you life
I'm always excited to read (using Audible) a T.J. Klune book. Michael Lesley brings these books to life with his narration. Klune sounds an extraordinary tale and Lesley just makes it that much better. When he says "Nicky" I laugh, it's just hilarious how it sounds. I laughed, I cried, I yelled, I felt like I knew these characters, as I often do with Klune's books. Can't wait to get started on the next one.

amazing story with even more amazing narrator!!
I love TJ Klune with a passion and this book was just as amazing as all of his others. There are so many turns that I suspected but thought impossible, and the narrator conveys each character beautifully. I love this series.
