Description

“A contemporary novel of masterful horror replete with magic, fantasy, and more than a little stylish sensuality.” (The Washington Post)

Phil Hastings was a lucky man - he had money, a growing reputation as a screenwriter, a happy, loving family with three kids, and he'd just moved into the house of his dreams in rural of magic - and about to be altered irrevocably by a magic more real than any he dared imagine. For with the Magic came the Bad Thing, and the Faerie, and then the Fool...and the resurrection of a primordial war with a forgotten People - a war that not only the Hastings but the whole human race could lose.

“Absorbing, thought-provoking, and thoroughly magical. Feist's skillfully crafted prose illuminates many of the darker sides of fairy stories.... Try it as a bedtime story...but only on nights when you can take some time getting to sleep.” (The West Coast Review of Books)

Great storyline. Okay reader

I read this in paperback years ago and had was excited to hear it in audio. The story itself is wonderful. The imagination of the writer as he brings you on the nail-biting journey is as good as I remember. The reader was just okay. There wasn't a lot of excitement in his reading. It was more like he just wanted to get the job over and done with. Sort of a let down as far as an audio.

A different kind of horror

I have always been interested to reading Raymond Feist but never seemed to get around to it. So I finally downloaded the audible version of Faerie Tale and really liked it a lot. I did not know what to expect, not know the plot or the writer's style but I really connected to it. Really great characters and and unique approach to horror - kind of Stephen King filtered through Tolkien. I was not thrilled with the narrator, but the story and writing made up for it. Highly recommended #FairytaleTwists #MythologyInspired #Magical #Dark #tagsgiving #sweepstake

Finally!!!!

Faerie Tale has been my favorite book since the first time I read it over a decade ago. I kept tweeting Raymond Feist, begging him to make this an Audible book and it has FINALLY happened! I actually renewed my Audible subscription just so I could get this book....now on to my review of the Audible book. The story is great. I love how this dark fantasy really encapsulates the dark side of faeries. Even the supposed "good" faeries have a darker side which I think is closer to how faeries actually are or were... I felt so close and connected to all of the characters. I think they all worked really well together. It is a story I can read and listen to over and over again. Now, as far as the narration goes, I'm usually not a fan and am unable to listen to male narrators. Though I feel Tim Flavin wasn't able to perform the female voices as well as I would have liked (he sounded like a guy normally sounds when he is mocking or mimicking a girl's voice) it wasn't so bad that I felt the need to not listen at all. All in all, I think he did a really great job for being a male narrator. Overall, I give this book a thumbs up!

Wonderful!

An exciting story that was beautifully narrated. The different accents were done masterfully. Word recommend

Good story but narrator may ruin it.

I love this story. unfortunately the narration makes it difficult to get into; although, I will say he' was good at accents.

Awful reading

Feist’s story isn’t his best, but it’s a mildly entertaining departure from Midkemia. The performance is just awful. Just read it yourself to avoid Flavin’s bizarre accent and voice choices.

Favorite of all times

I have read the book 2 times - I never reread a book, but this one was that good. I always name this as my favorite. Seen it on here and decided to give it a try (reading has became issues for me both with eye site and free time and Audible just solves both). I could not be happier. It's hard to beat reading with your own eyes and your mind creating all the images, but the reader of this book reading was amazing. I give him a 10/10 - just a great job all around.

Love this book

Mister Feist does a remarkable job with his storytelling. He's clearly done a good bit of research on Irish, Scottish, and German folklore. and his touching on the subject of the Magi in the eighties before it was cool, is a nice touch. his words are building blocks that helped create detailed concrete images in one's mind. I love this book, and always have. from the first time I actually read it. I had high hopes for the audio version, and while the main story is as great as ever, I feel like the performance of the narrator left a bit to be desired. his portrayal of Mark Blackman is perfect. as well as his portrayal of Barney Doyle, Wayland Smith, and Ariel. his portrayal of Jack, is not a take I would have personally thought of, but I appreciate it. I thought his portrayal of the twins was just okay, and the way he read Gabby and Gloria were awful. at times it felt very much like he was reading for a cheesy sitcom. overall though, I'm happy to have this in my library of audiobooks. if you appreciate this story, or if you like contemporary fantasy, this book is a must-have.
