    Description

My name is Rex. I am a good dog....

Rex is also seven feet tall at the shoulder, bulletproof, bristling with heavy-calibre weaponry, and a deadly weapon in a dirty war. He's part of a Multiform Assault Pack operating in the lawless anarchy of Campeche, southeastern Mexico. He has the intelligence to carry out his orders and feedback implants to reward him when he does. All he wants to be is a Good Dog, and to do that he must do exactly what Master says.

What happens when Master is tried as a war criminal? What rights does the Geneva Convention grant weapons? And what happens when Rex slips his leash?

    Start of the whole story

A superb story that shows the beginning of the authors world, the manipulation genetic, fearful...

    Good book!

Adrian Tchaikovsky is amazing. He really approaches the Campbellian ideal of writing characters who think as well as a human but not like a human.

Not only that, but they are also characters you come to care about, become invested in, in worlds which are plausible, layered, fascinating, and show relevance to ours.

Rex, Honey, Bees, HumOS, and even Dragon (more a supporting character) grow and change in the harsh circumstances of a world they were literally made to serve, but in the end they have the power to change their world as well. The Moray is a villain of our time, transformative but in his genius bringing good as well as pain (and the twist reveal of his final structure is perfect).

Dogs of War is a deeply moving tale of humanity, in the largest nonspecific sense, matching up against inhumanity through the constructions of humans.

    outstanding voice acting!

the narrators are all on point. especially the narrator voicing rex (the main protagonist) is impersonating the dog personality greatly.

Fantastic, deep story and well narrated

This was a truly great, immersive experience. Telling the story from different viewpoints and using different actors to narrate really helped to form a big picture, seeing that the main protagonist has sometimes difficulty grasping it himself.
The narrators were well picked, especially Rex´ deep, husky voice.

The way internal struggles were told, and from the view of a dog (or other animal) no less, was superb and very believable. In the end, I cried a little.
I love how this author slips into the mind of beasts and tells a story from their viewpoint. He has done it in Children of Time and even managed to lessen my arachnophbia a bit, that is how good he is.

    A. T. is one of the best.

Of all SciFi I have read, only Niven comes close to the mastery of A. T., building a new univers of ideas and liveforms while developing the characters on a continuously catching story, with unsuspected turns. I liked that he added a kind of ajounct after the story ends, nicely ebbing out, not leaving the emptieness often accompanied after a high powered, action driven end.

Good Dog.. aehm, I mean good book!

That was interesting, and well written considering the alien nature of some protagonists. The variance in narrators for the different pov characters made it an easy listening. Highly recommended.
