Description
Robots are no longer science fiction. Autonomous, programmed to react like animals: fast, relentless, deadly. From microscopic nanobots to massive self-guided aircraft. This technology is here, it's assessable, and it's dangerous. What's even scarier is that almost anyone can get their hands on it.
A freelance terrorist uses the latest generation of robot dogs to deliver WMDs into cities across America. Sophisticated military weapons systems turn on their human masters. A technological apocalypse is coming, and we may be too late to stop it.
Joe Ledger and a newly rebuilt Department of Military Sciences square off against this new and terrible threat. Dogs of War pits Joe against a merciless new enemy and an army of techno-terrorists in a race to prevent a global destruction.
Let loose the Dogs of War.

Mayberry plus Porter is always magic
While the plot is not aliens, zombies, or crazed geneticists Dogs of War is read beautifully by Ray Porter and written in an engaging rhythm by Mayberry. Always impressed by these two, and halfway through the book I'm very impressed. Authors: never hire anyone but Ray Porter!

Not the Best in a FANTASTIC Series
If you could sum up Dogs of War in three words, what would they be?
Not That Great
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I don't think the ending was very surprising... Unless I missed something
What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Hes fantastic enough said.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. The Joe Ledger series is one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong this is a good book. That being said it has to be one of my least favorite of the series. It seemed somewhat phoned in. There where way too many long unnecessary deviations, and the bad guy/s weren't that interesting in the end. I couldn't stop listening until about 3/4 of the way through and then I started to get worried. I don't want to spoil anything, but if all these bad guys knew each other than why the heck didn't they just work together instead of each doing their own thing? That is kind of why I feel this book was phoned in. That being said it had a lot of potential and the build up is pretty good, but it doesn't pay off. Now I put this series upp there with Mitch Rapp, Scott Harvath, and Pike Logan especially. A not so great Joe Ledger book is still a good book. This one just felt very disjointed and had so many missed opportunities.
Again its still a Joe Ledger book, and if your a fan I wouldn't hesitate.
Any additional comments?
The next book will be really good. I have no doubt, the author had to get this one out of his system and tie up some of these loose ends.

What IN THE ACTUAL HELL is Nicodemus?!?! Jonathan Maberry needs an entire related series dedicated to this talking point

More of the same for Joe Ledger
Joe Ledger has been delivering action with an attitude for a while now and Dogs of War marks the 9th full novel in this action packed series. Joe Ledger and the DMS have faced quite a diverse set of adversaries along the way including the likes of zombies, aliens, vampires, super soldiers, and even some yet to be explained phenomena, yes I am looking at you Nicodemus. Of course if you are considering reading book 9 then you likely know all of that already and you also know that those encounters have taken their toll on the DMS with most surviving members of Echo team carrying around some serious emotional baggage. What manner of madness has Jonathan Maberry cooked up this time and will the DMS even be able to find their "A" game to deal with it?
Kudos to Maberry for managing to evolve his overall story arc across so many books while keeping keep each and every one fresh along the way; however, that streak comes to end with Dogs of War. Unfortunately this book marks the first time that the story just wasn't very unique. Engineered plagues, drones/robots built by our military that can be controlled by the bad guys, and attacks upon the family members of the DMS have all been done before and they are done here yet again. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad book, it just isn't anything special and for Joe Ledger fans that takes a bit of the fun out of it. Nobody beats Joe Ledger when it comes to serving up a cold dish of vengeance on someone who truly deserves it, but this time around it just feels very "been there, done that." Of course that didn't stop me from rooting for the killer inside Joe Ledger to come out to play when the time was right for a little payback.
Luckily a mediocre Joe Ledger novel is still better than a lot of what is out there and with Ray Porter being his usual excellent self this one is still worth your time. Just keep your expectations in check and know that by the time this one is over the story arc will be set up nicely for a fresh story to be told in the next book.

Still got it
Incredibly, Jonathan Maberry does it again. It's difficult to listen to dystopian sci-fi thrillers in these to-close-for-comfort times, but Joe Ledger always makes mine hopeful that the good guys will win. Battered, but not broken. And, as always, Ray Porter is a god.

Ledger series getting long in the tooth
Perfectly serviceable Ledger book, but not much new ground covered. Felt like a mash-up of story beats cut from earlier novels.

Who let the dogs out?
I skipped meals, drove the long way home and did what ever I could to hear this book and to finish it. I was so caught up in the story, in the action. It is like a drug, and I want more! More SMS, more How, more Bug, and who or what is Mr. Church....I am ready for more!

the only books that illicit an emotional response
I love audible books but this series by far my favorite in the many books I've bought. I have some of the physical copies that I re purchased on here just to listen to Ray Porter's excellent reading of them. they are the only books that have caused me to hold my breath waiting to see what happens next. Jonathan Maberry does an excellent job keeping you so engrossed with such flexible yet solid writing and tempo that Nicodemus would find it unnerving. keep up the excellent work Mr. Maberry. you could in all actuality be the Bram Stoker of the modern age....

Mr. Maberry has doe it again.
I have to say that Dogs of War may be my favorite Ledger book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading/listening. Ray Porter was once again amazing. I just can't get enough of these characters the good and the bad. I can't wait to see what's next for the DMS!
