In 1879, eighteen-year-old Liv, like thousands of her fellow citizens, leaves the hard times in Norway for a new life in Minnesota. She’s accompanied by her beautiful sixteen-year-old sister, Marit, who vanishes within moments of arriving at Ellis Island.
Officials dismiss the disappearance as confusion in the crush of immigrants, insisting that she must have wandered off. But Liv knows Marit would never do that.
