    Description

With 1.7 million copies of the Dexter novels sold, and ever-increasing critical acclaim, Jeff Lindsay returns to his groundbreaking and beloved character with his most entertaining book yet. Get ready for a grisly send-up of Hollywood, and a full dose of dark Dexter wit.

Lights. Camera. Mayhem. You won't find this story on television.

Hollywood gets more than it bargained for when television's hottest star arrives at the Miami Police Department and develops an intense, professional interest in a camera-shy blood spatter analyst named Dexter Morgan.

Mega-star Robert Chase is famous for losing himself in his characters. When he and a group of actors descend on the Miami Police Department for "research", Chase becomes fixated on Dexter Morgan, the blood spatter analyst with a sweet tooth for doughnuts and a seemingly average life. To perfect his role, Chase is obsessed with shadowing Dexter's every move and learning what really makes him tick. There is just one tiny problem...Dexter's favorite hobby involves hunting down the worst killers to escape legal justice, and introducing them to his special brand of playtime. It's a secret best kept out of the spotlight and away from the prying eyes of bloated Hollywood egos if Dexter wants to stay out of the electric chair. The last thing he needs is bright lights and the paparazzi...but even Dexter isn't immune to the call of fame.

Jeff Lindsay's razor-sharp, devilish wit, and immaculate pacing prove that he is in a class of his own, and this new novel is his most masterful creation yet.

    Stumble, stumble, fall...

I always figured Dexter would die. I'm okay with that. My dream is that he be killed by a serial killer who only kills serial killers... I've been entertained by previous story lines and was ready for Dex to go out with a bang. A pop? No, it's just a whimper.. It's like the author had nothing to say and felt something had to happen anyway. The last 30 minutes may be the worst Lindsay has ever written. There is no way a Dexter fan is going to skip this book but I can't imagine them not being disapointed. Also let me say that I miss the original narrator (Nick Landry?). It's very Stephen King to say I need control over every aspect of my story but I didn't like the change at all. Lastly, the way Lindsay read the chapter headings in his super low voice sounded like farce to me. Insulting even. Dexter fans deserve better. Will there be another book to fix and finalize?

Should be renamed "Dexter is a D-Bag"

What disappointed you about Dexter's Final Cut?

Dexter is a totally different person in this novel. Previously he has always had admirable qualities despite his many flaws. In this one, he's just terribly annoying and for lack of a more sophisticated word, a real jerk.

What was most disappointing about Jeff Lindsay’s story?

I just really didn't like the whole direction of it. Dexter falls in love with a famous movie star? What?

Would you be willing to try another one of Jeff Lindsay’s performances?

Of course. I'm hooked on the Dexter series regardless of how disappointing this one was.

What character would you cut from Dexter's Final Cut?

    Oddly enough, Dexter!

    Any additional comments?

If you're looking to read a Dexter book, please don't make this your first.

The emotional sociopath who's now all talk...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Considering it is a book about a sociopathic serial killer, I would like to hear more than 10 minutes of murder & mayhem.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Thankfully, NOT a Dexter book as I believe this is the last one in the series. At least I hope it is because I simply MUST listen to them when they come out, despite the fact that the last 3 have been terribly ridiculous.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Whether they admit it or not, anyone listening to Dexter books listen because they like seeing life through the eyes of a psychopathic serial killer. Therefore, the scenes when Dexter is on the prowl are always the best.

Do you think Dexter's Final Cut needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    PLEASE NO!!!

    Any additional comments?

Thanks for the first 2 Dexter books, Jeff, but please STOP already! Maybe take up narrating if you've run out of ideas because your performances are GREAT!

    Dexter Doesn't Deliver...

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

i don't know. This didn't feel like a Dexter novel to me. Re-read the first 3 books again instead.

What could Jeff Lindsay have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The characters all seem to have wandered off their respective paths and the novel suffers for it. He spends the whole book with his passenger asleep for some reason. Not much resolution or even a hint of resolution in the end.

How could the performance have been better?

    it was fine.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dexter's Final Cut?

I felt much like the passengers role in this novel. Occasionally he flutters a little, but not much else happens.

    Any additional comments?

Wait to see if Jeff Lindsay writes another Dexter novel to complete this story and assure us all that Dexter is not a deliberate douche.

    Disappointment....

What would have made Dexter's Final Cut better?

Horrible voice over, Dexter just really not being dexter...... I really can't imagine being more disappointed in this book that I've waited over a year and a half!

Would you ever listen to anything by Jeff Lindsay again?

Yes after seven pretty good books everyone's entitled to a lemon

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeff Lindsay?

    The original guy

What character would you cut from Dexter's Final Cut?

I would scrap the whole Idea.......

    Any additional comments?

Please give us a better book

    Stop Before Reading This One

I wish I would have stopped reading the Dexter series before this book. This is where I lost all respect and sympathy for Dexter. The following book also didn't redeem the character in my opinion, so now the whole series has now left a bitter taste in my mouth.

If you've come this far in the Dexter series, stop now while you can still look back on the series fondly.

    I don't know why I'm still listening

What disappointed you about Dexter's Final Cut?

Everything? All this build through seven books that Dexter isn't human, Dexter is a sociopath, Dexter doesn't have feelings. Now after a few days with some Hollywood chick he enjoys sex and...is in love? He's so not-human that he can leave his wife and kids with no second thought but he has feelings about his mistress? It doesn't make sense. It's inconceivable. Listening to him be completely ignorant about who the killer is for 3+ hours was maddening. Was the audience really supposed to be figuring it out along with Dexter? Because I got it so long ago I considered (wished I had) skipping forward. So much pointless rambling, going on and on and so clueless, but if I knew Dexter I'd be saying HELLO! WHY YOU SO STUPID??

Has Dexter's Final Cut turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but I will be more selective before getting so deep into a series. I like to finish what I start, but the writing has made it extremely difficult.

What didn’t you like about Jeff Lindsay’s performance?

Only slightly better than the writing. Deb's voice isn't any better than the last one where it changed to a more high-pitched whiny sound. Inconsistent.

What character would you cut from Dexter's Final Cut?

Reni Boudreaux. He was obviously meant to throw off the audience but it just doesn't work. His on-stage character is believable; that's about it.

    Any additional comments?

I don't know why I'm going to waste another 11 hours of my life on the last book. This is what OCD does to a person. Mind-numbing time wasted on bad books.

The book that made me dislike Dexter :(

The story was fine. My only dislike was Dexter was willing to throw away everything for a Hollywood actress. It just seemed like something Dexter wouldn’t do. I hope the last book will be able redeem one of my favorite characters.

    Shocking Story!!

The author really took us on a trip with this story. Definitely one of the best books in the series. Must read if you have gotten this far in the Dexter series.

    What happened?

This book was awful. Not at all like previous ones. it only got interesting in the last few chapters and that was just a prelude to the next book. Dexter is completely unlikable in this book and the whole thing could have just stayed as an idea in Jeff Lindsay's brain because it was just awful. Here is some hoping for the next book but I am not at all convinced that this could be redeemed.
