Description

In these three baffling mysteries of motive and murder, even the great Nero Wolfe finds himself stumped. First there is the case of the two passionate lovebirds who want to make sure that neither is a cold-blooded killer. Then it's off to the races, where Wolfe must choose from a stable of five likely suspects to corral a killer on horseback. And finally the detective finds himself the confidant of a distraught self-described grifter who claims a murderer is stalking Wolfe's own brownstone.

Through brilliant deduction and inspired perseverance, the master of detection is determined to expose the truth behind the veils of illusion and bring down the curtain on three all-too-clever murderers.

Three OK Stories, Homicide Trinity much better

This book contains three Nero Wolfe short stories; The Gun with Wings, Bullet for One and Disguise for Murder. These are all fine short stories but none are among my favorite Nero Wolfe shorts, and I tend to like the novels substantially more than the shorts. Although these stories have a nice tone and fantastic narration, they all lack second level of surprise which allows a great Nero Wolfe short to overcome the limitation of the short story format for a mystery. These each were a simple little mystery without enough twists or intensity of characters to make the stories outstanding.

If you want a good collection of shorts as an introduction to Nero Wolfe, try Homicide Trinity, the best of the shorts in this series. Still, this collection is not at all bad and should not be avoided by an avid Nero Wolfe buff.

You Can Count on Stout

After listening to some less than stellar books, it was a pleasure to come home to Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin in their brownstone in New York. The three stories here are good ones, and we even have a murder in Wolfe's office (a storyline Stout has used before). Pritchard's voice is perfectly suited for Wolfe and he does a credible Archie. This recording, though, seems strangely edited, with a new chapter coming at times with no pause at all. It doesn't take away, though, from these marvelous tales.

Hard to give any Archie & Nero book less than 5

One of the collections of three or four novellas by Rex Stout. I generally like the full novels better, but these are great too. One of the stories include one of the greatest dangers to Archie in the entire series.

As per usual, excellently read by Michael Prichard.

If you have never read or listen to any of these before, this is probably a good place to jump on, as they're short. And of the collections, this may be my favorite one. Each one of these three stories is tight, and includes all of the outstanding features of every Nero & Archie book

Master file may need to be re-uploaded.

Stories are fun, narrator is great, but the cutoff between end of chapter and beginning of next chapter is sometimes a little too sharp.

Nero Wolfe - What's Not to Like

Would you listen to Curtains for Three again? Why?

Never read a Nero Wolfe story I didn't like. I have read the print versions more than twice and never get tired of them.

Any additional comments?

Micheal Pritchard does an excellent job of reading the Wolfes' and would recommend these books to any fan of the detective.

If you could sum up Curtains for Three in three words, what would they be?

Entertaining and Intriguing

If you’ve listened to books by Rex Stout before, how does this one compare?

Rex Stout continues to bring wit, charm and an old fashion sophistication to his stories with interesting twists in the 'who done-its.'

Would you listen to another book narrated by Michael Prichard?

Michael Prichard does a good narrative of Wolfe and Archie
