Histoire
The year is 2108, and the North American Commonwealth is bursting at the seams. For welfare rats like Andrew Grayson, there are only two ways out of the crime-ridden and filthy welfare tenements: You can hope to win the lottery and draw a ticket on a colony ship settling off-world...or you can join the service. With the colony lottery a pipe dream, Andrew chooses to enlist in the armed forces for a shot at real food, a retirement bonus, and maybe a ticket off Earth.

All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

My name is Gary Rendell. I'm an astronaut. When they asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, "astronaut, please!" I dreamed astronaut, I worked astronaut, I studied astronaut. I got lucky; when a probe exploring the Oort Cloud found a strange alien rock and an international team of scientists was put together to go and look at it, I made the draw. I got even luckier. When disaster hit and our team was split up, scattered through the endless cold tunnels, I somehow survived. Now I'm lost, and alone, and scared, and there's something horrible in here. Lucky me.

Histoire
In her new novella, Sunday Times best-selling author Becky Chambers imagines a future in which, instead of terraforming planets to sustain human life, explorers of the solar system instead transform themselves. Adriane is one such explorer. As an astronaut on an extrasolar research vessel, she and her fellow crewmates sleep between worlds and wake up each time with different features. Her experience is one of fluid body and stable mind and of a unique perspective on the passage of time. Back on Earth, society changes dramatically from decade to decade, as it always does.

Just great
- Écrit par : Marianne le 30/10/2019
Description
The assault on Earth was thwarted by the destruction of the aliens' seed ship, but with Mars still under Lanky control, survivors work frantically to rebuild fighting capacity and shore up planetary defenses. Platoon sergeant Andrew Grayson must crash-course train new volunteers - all while dulling his searing memories of battle with alcohol and meds.
Knowing Earth's uneasy respite won't last, the North American Commonwealth and its Sino-Russian allies hurtle toward two dangerous options: hit the Lanky forces on Mars or go after deserters who stole a fleet of invaluable warships critical to winning the war. Assigned to a small special ops recon mission to scout out the renegades' stronghold on a distant moon, Grayson and his wife, dropship pilot Halley, again find themselves headed for the crucible of combat - and a shattering new campaign in the war for humanity's future.

Too Much Romantic Bravo Sierra!
The main story is great. However, now that the protagonist is married to his boot camp booty call, the relationship mumbo jumbo drove me nuts. I found myself fast forwarding through those bits of tedious dialogue to get back to the military science fiction.

Pretty good addition to the series. Quite slow during the middle portion but it has a good ending. Should have been combined with next installment in series. Overall worth a credit.

Becoming a bit too repetitive
This installment has platoon sergeant Andrew Grayson promoted to 2nd lieutenant for his heroic effort to save earth from a Lanky invasion after it was abandoned by the President and a major portion of the fleet soon after the Lanky appearance. He is given command of a ground force to, ostensibly, run reconnaissance on the small moon where the deserters have relocated. The goal is to provide enough intelligence to a follow-on invasion force who will be tasked to recover the stolen fleet so that a counter invasion can be mounted against the Lanky who now occupy Mars.
The story then unfolds in a somewhat predictable manner as they pursue their mission. Orders change, skirmishes ensue, several close encounters occurs and eventually, they win the day.
Other than the overall repetitive nature of the story, the author's writing is still easy to follow and the narration is still very good.

More of the same
Skip this book. This story had a good premise but I think the author just ran out of steam. In this book they come up with another gimmick to give the story a little breath. It's really not enough. Not enough happens. It was good while it lasted, but after all, it's the fourth book in the series and was bound to peter out sooner or later. The signs were there and it was good while it lasted. I'm not trying to be mean when I say that there is nothing else to be squeezed out of this series.

Enjoyable Installment
It's a fine addition to the series... Humanistic military SF, and it gets the jargon and nomenclature right... Great characters, and although it started a bit slow it got cranked up nicely, and produced a great ending... The narration is excellent... Can't wait for book 4, things are getting real interesting in the overall story arc and am looking forward to where the author is taking it... Definitely worth the price...

this is an excellent book in the series. I love the way how Marko breaks his stories up enough to keep you fully engaged in the series yet doesn't leave you hanging between each book. I would highly recommend this one.

The Fight Continues
Would you listen to Chains of Command again? Why?
I am sure I will be listening to the full series again. Luke Daniels is magical in all the series I have heard him read. He takes a very compelling story and brings it like.
Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?
Easily one of the best performers I have heard on any audiobook.
Any additional comments?
Marko has created a fully realized universe with characters that are all too human, for good and bad. If you need your military sci-fi fix you can't go wrong spending some time in Marko's worlds.

Not as fulfilling as the first three books.
I loved the first three books. This book left me feeling like it was only half over at the end. The other books seemed to be a more complete segment to me. I did still enjoy the book and will continue to listen to the series.

Attention recruits!
Luke Daniels is a great voice actor. Seriously.
Andrew Grayson has gained a bit of weight. His wife doesn't appear to mind however. Taking a well deserved break from slugging it out on the frontlines (oh the irony) Platoon Sergeant Grayson is doing his best to get boots filled for the coming assault on Mars. Along comes an offer he can't refuse, so Lieutenant Grayson grabs a bunch of trustee noncom-friends and off he cruises into adventure again. All the really thorny issues have already been tackled in the last two books one thinks, but there are a couple more as Marko Kloos lets his main character discover the difference between lawful, right and right. Lt. Grayson is not perfect, which makes him so much more relatable.
This installment of Frontlines mostly tidies up the open sideplot from the prior two books. It also sets us up for the battle of Mars and develops the characters and their relationships.

Nichts wirklich Neues

Waiting for the next one.
A good continuation of the story. I listened to the German audio version of the other ones before but the military jargon is clearly better in English. It is continuing to be good entertainment, which could make it into a TV series one day. Hope there will be more assignments for the crew to come and it won't end with the battle of Mars.
