Description
Book six of the Ciaphas Cain series
The Imperium's most unlikely hero is back, reluctantly returning to the front line and hoping his luck will hold out!
Listen to it because: this entry from the Cain Archives takes the Hero of the Imperium into his greatest - and possibly last - battle. He's an old man in this one, pulled out of retirement for one last mission as the hordes of Chaos close in on the Imperium....
The story: after a long and distinguished career defending the Imperium from its many enemies, Commissar Cain is enjoying a well-deserved retirement on Perlia, teaching in a schola progenium. But when a Black Crusade threatens the sector, all able-bodied citizens must rise to the defence, including Cain and his cadets. As the forces of Chaos overwhelm Perlia, can the wily commissar prove himself to be a real hero of the Imperium one last time?
Written by Sandy Mitchell. Running time 10 hours and 31 minutes. Performed by Stephen Perring, Penelope Rawlins, Richard Reed, John Banks and Phillipe Bosher.

Black Library gets it right again!
Black Library has once again produced a funny, action filled audio drama. Just like the other Cain audiobooks this one is filled great Easter eggs and head nods to things both in and outside of the Warhammer 40k universe. Performance and production quality are top notch.

A struggle to finish
Not really as engaging as previous installments. Not bad but not great either. While I have re-listened to all the previous books, this one feels like a single listen

A Guilty Pleasure
Cains last stand is a nice kind of cheesy grime dark adventure that will satisfy any nerds need for grimdark action.
I personally love the naration, the narrators/voice actors do a phenomenal job as always. the music always is so inviting and really brings me into the action. i feel as if I am actuaoly on the battlefield with bolter fore and plasma cannons firing all around me.
soft SPOILER Below:
War hammer 40 k fans will love this one as it deals with so much of 40 k from necrons to heratics to the traitor astarties.

Ciaphas Cain is always FUN
Sure, there's neverending war, but Commissar Cain is at the ready. These stories are much like Flashman - a self-serving cad who finds himself in both the right and wrong place most of the time. But don't read it for yourself, read it For The Emperor!

Best Series of the Genre!
Despite not beibg a die hard Warhammer 40K fan, the Ciaphas Cain Novels are throughout one of the most accessible and enjoyable one of the whole setting. The dark humor and sharp observations make the stories thoroughly enjoyable for all sci fi, fantasy military novel fans. The reading performance is on spot too.

just in the middle out of nowhere the voice severely changes as if they gotten better equipment and didnt bother to rerecord from the beginning... very off-putting
