Description
Book 9 in the Ciaphas Cain series.
Hero of the Imperium, the legendary Commissar Ciaphas Cain, is back in the field, and this time he's facing down both the T'au Empire and the tyranids.
Listen to it because....
Treacherous t'au, terrifying tyranids and the irascible Commissar Cain – it all adds up to a classic tale from the master of Warhammer 40,000 comedy-action.
The story:
When the world of Quadravidia comes under attack by the insidious tau, only one man can defeat the aliens and save the planet in the Emperor's name – the legendary Hero of the Imperium, Commissar Ciaphas Cain. When the aliens call for a ceasefire, Cain expects the worst, and his fears are answered in the form of the dread menace of the tyranids. As a hive fleet approaches Quadravidia, Cain must try to forge an alliance between the Imperium and the t'au – but can he truly trust the inscrutable xenos?

And that's all he wrote (for now)
Last book in the original run of books, its probably 1 too many, the story is a bit formulaic at this point, the tau are written out after 3 chapters. Its overall a great performance, its a good book, maybe there will be more Caine in the future, the author has published one more book since this one. Maybe we get a proper tau teamup book at some point.

If you’re buying this to hear about Tau don’t bother
Story is the same as every other Ciaphas Cain book in existence but the cover is a flat out lie. the Tau only act as messengers they don’t fight alongside as it would imply this is a mechanics book 95% of the time

misleading title, still a fun book.
I had a good time but only picked up this book because I was expecting it to be focused on interactions with the Tau. it was a tyranids story more then Tau. Tau we're practical a footnote I. comparison

A somewhat misleading title/cover art
Very little of the action has actually to do with the Tau or the "Greater Good", though they kickstart the story well enough. Otherwise they remain for most of the time in the background. Based on the cover art, I had hoped for a little more side by side action of Cain and some fire warriors etc. But still a good story, in the usual way Cains adventures happen. With one of the most hilarious and at the same time shortest "reactions" from Amberly till now.

Disappointing after creating high expectations
I was so looking forward to an intense cooperation with the T’au as it briefly happened before. But this was mostly about AdMech once again, being the greedy dwarfs digging too deep. The T’au appear rarely as one single ambassador that Cain treats uncharacteristically repelling. Was this heavily redacted to not manifest a more true alliance in the lore?
Also Cain in this novel is not just more truly cowardly then before (actually requesting evacuation when he is still needed) but also Amberley seems to less often point out his heroism but even agrees to his cowardice for the fist time. In my memory binging the series that is something new and takes out the needed indifference about Cains character.
