À propos de ce contenu audio

' Beautiful World, Where Are You is Rooney's best novel.' THE TIMES

The *new* novel from the internationally bestselling author of Normal People.

Alice, a novelist, meets Felix, who works in a warehouse, and asks him if he'd like to travel to Rome with her. In Dublin, her best friend Eileen is getting over a break-up and slips back into flirting with Simon, a man she has known since childhood.

Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young - but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart. They worry about sex and friendship and the world they live in. Are they standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something? Will they find a way to believe in a beautiful world?

'A tour de force. The dialogue never falters, and the prose burns up the page.'
GUARDIAN

'Rooney's strongest writing thus far . . . There is a touching honesty and truthfulness in these pages, along with a quiet brilliance.'
FINANCIAL TIMES

'The book moved me to tears more than once . . . Rooney's best novel.'
THE TIMES

'Written with immense skill and illuminated by an endlessly incisive intelligence.'
IRISH TIMES

' Beautiful World, Where Are You is not just worth reading. It's worth thinking about.'
IRISH INDEPEDENT

'Brilliantly done: gripping, steamy, unbearably sad.'

Sally Rooney’s book might not be everybody’s cup of tea as books go, but when it is, it’s usually a great experience as books go. BWWAY is no exception in that regard. Granted, not much happens and we mostly follow the character interactions with the world around them but her book is profoundly human and that’s what’s great about it. Without realizing it, you are very much invested in their story and choices.
Aoife McMahon’s reading is on but and really complements the text. If I had one remark to make about it it would be about her « masculine » voice for Felix and Simon but especially Felix that I sometimes noticed and pulled me out of the story. But really it’s just a detail.
Anyway, great book and great reader. I really enjoyed it.

Great book and great reader

I believe I share the sentiments of many others who left a review. Admittedly, I found nearly every scene depicted “in real life” to be awkward and, at times, even cringe-worthy. However, sprinkled between these scenes were chapters written as emails between the two women - which I found to be quite intriguing and profound. In these email exchanges, the women speak of philosophical topics, reflecting on relationships, beauty and meaning in life (ironically touching upon many of the themes and questions evoked in my own book of poetry ‘Brushstrokes’).

I almost wish I could review this book in 2 separate sections: 4/5 for the email discussions and 2/5 for each of the scenes dispersed between them.

L’histoire est très moderne et intéressante - j’aurai aimé plusieurs acteurs car j’ai été parfois perdu - dans l’ensemble un moment agréable

S’aimer soi-même
