Description

When actress Claudia Christian flees a troubled childhood and moves to Hollywood at age 17, she steps through the looking glass into another world.

From the set of Dallas to her starring role on the sci-fi series Babylon 5, Claudia's affairs with billionaires, supermodels, rock stars, and celebrities are mixed with shootings, stalking, heartbreak, and betrayal. On set and off, drama follows Claudia - an alcohol-fueled coke run and makeout session with a bridesmaid on her wedding day; her tempestuous, love-hate relationship with actor Angus Macfadyen; the conspiracy theories surrounding her ex-husband's death; and a 20-year on-and-off relationship with billionaire Dodi Fayed before he dated Princess Diana. Hollywood life takes its toll on Claudia as she descends into alcohol addiction and a desperate battle to reclaim her life.

Rehab, alternative treatments, and even hypnotism can't break the cycle of alcohol abuse that threatens to destroy Claudia. Close to despair she discovers The Sinclair Method, a treatment that saves her life.

Sometimes shocking, often humorous, always captivating Babylon Confidential is a story of hope that will inspire and enlighten you.

It Takes Guts to Share a Story Like This

This book is quite possibly the most candid book I've ever experienced. That Claudia Christian narrates the audiobook herself makes it feel that much more personal, and that much more powerful. On Babylon 5, her character Susan Ivanova is tougher-than-nails, the left hand of God and vengeance personified when the call arises. The actress behind the character... she's much tougher by necessity, and all too human, just like the rest of us.

Everyone has that personal chink in the armor, the Achilles' Heel to which we can fall prey. She found hers, and this book is an amazing chronicle of her battle with what she calls her inner monster. The book is intense and as relatable as a tale like this can be. It's not for the squeamish, but it is one for pretty much anyone who doesn't live that fairy tale perfect life. At its core, which she reminds us up front, this is a story of hope.

While I myself am not an alcoholic, I found the details to be particularly enlightening as to what that kind of thing really is like, and in the sharing, I felt like I was given a boost to my own fight against my own personal demons. We all have an addiction to something, even if we aren't aware of it, and even if it seems minor by comparison of others. I'm in the midst of battling with mine. This came along at exactly the right time, which is perhaps why I'm biased towards a higher rating, but I just can't give anything less than the highest mark for a person who bared her soul to the world in this way. A book like this is courage incarnate.

Taming The Monster

Truth about addiction is hard to come by especially when you think you are hiding it so well. This is a very open and honest look at what addiction can do to our lives. I appreciate her courage for sharing her truth because abuse tried to stay hidden creating the monster. I also admire her for reaching out to others to try and help with their monsters. I am glad that you are still here to do battle with your monster. I hope you continue to have s happy and successful life.

I had no idea....

Dear Claudia, I'm both sorry and happy you have gone through the trials life put in front of you as well as your determination to find and accomplish a return of control in your life. I 100% agree that addictions are physical LEARNED behaviors and not something akin to mind over matter. I have never had any addiction because I chose to not participate. I chose to love a life I can recall nearly every single moment of both good and bad. But in your case....

What would you have done if you weren't financially well off? Why did you choose to date so many older rich men? Upon listening to you read this book about your life I've come to a few conclusions of my own. You NEED to be with someone full time. Nothing wrong with this, but it's is also a dependency you have never tried to change. Why? I wonder if you were in my world with no one at all...how would you have made it? I'm hoping you'd have made it to where this book ends regardless of help from friends, lovers, and family. But I can't help but wonder...What If...?

I have always found you beautiful in those projects I've had the pleasure of seeing you in. B5, Hexed, The Hidden, but I've always wondered why there weren't more 'good' movies with you as lead or supporting character? Most everything else I've looked at have been super low budget crap fen if your skills were still there. No amount of great acting can make up for a lame story or horrible movie making.

Since you are an author which adds yet another dimension to your list of accomplishments. I ask you to consider a fictional story of nearly the same set of circumstances EXCEPT without the big money, fame, and globe trotting. What would a story like that become? Might this be a challenge that tickles your talents? Perhaps someday it just might. I'd truly love to see how you would write the character that has no money, no family or friends, and no money. Yet this same person perseveres through all the pain caused by three malpractice doctors who took any chance of a happy, happy life away. The doctors got away with causing permanent harm, and you are left with no one who understands how you feel or cares one bit. You still manage to contribute much in the corporate world designing better ways of efficiency, yet having the credit stolen by your boss. Starting your own businesses that become successful, then are copied by those who mocked you when you started causing your businesses to flounder because 'they' have more money and lots of 'friends'. Add to that...staying home to care for your ill parents instead of pursuing your talents and dreams. Only to be left with nothing by the end after your mom and dad both pass away in the 15 years you gave up caring for them. Throw in a few happenstances of betrayal by those you thought were friends or lovers. Then, wind up living on government disability surrounded by people who have nothing in common with you. This leaves you without any sex or even someone to talk to regularly for YEARS. What would a fictional Claudia story with all these elements read like? No near miracle pill can fix these issues. Would that Claudia keep fighting the losing battle watching more and more of life be taken. More and more physical, mental, and emotional pain pile on every day. Would this Claudia keep going, or would this Claudia simply decide that Karma does not exist. God is a a twisted sadist. And simply choose to put and end to all the years and decades of pointless suffering?

I'd really enjoy seeing what someone who knows nothing of a life like this might come up with as a fictional story and how that story would end.

For me...you will always be Ivanova and Hexina. Even got to merge the two slightly when forced to deal with the ambassador in the episode where Paul Williams did all the talking until, humans were judged 'worthy'. Your choice of 'sex human style' made me laugh as well as remind me of something Hexina would have done. On the other side...such wonderful sorrow upon learning Marcus died to save your characters life. I hope you and he got along as real people on the set. Because of what happened with season 5, we the viewers lost BOTH Ivanova and Marcus. That really sucked and no offense to Tracy...she was a very wrong character replacement for the show. If you're gonna bang the boss, I guess ass kissing would also be expected. This book says it was due to unwillingness to compromise on your schedule, yet at the time that was never mentioned as a reason why you were gone from the show. Oh well...I own all the DVDs and can travel down that joyful path whenever I choose. I also own the other two movies I've mentioned previously. I really DO enjoy your work when it's worth watching. I might even try your other novel and see how it might make me feel.

Best wishes and I'm glad you have finally gotten control of your life back! Thanks for sharing. I hope it was not only profitable, but cathartic. Although I wished it had more to do with B5 as the title suggests.

The first 75% of this book was awesome

I loved most of this book.
But the final 25/30% was just too much about her alcohol issues, it lost my attention because it was just one drunken story after another.
Great performance overall.

A Hollywood exposé with an important message

For anyone curious about what life is really like behind the scenes for a beautiful, successful Hollywood actress, this is a fascinating glimpse into that world. For anyone struggling with an inner darkness while trying to look normal to the rest of the world, you'll find a kindred spirit in Claudia. For anyone in the grips of addiction, riding the spiral downward to an early grave, this book could save your life.

Fascinating, heartbreaking, and always funny, Claudia delivers the story of her life and her painful addiction with a heartfelt passion, a characteristic bluntness, and a knowing grin all in one. Well worth a read!

Good but....

Would you listen to Babylon Confidential again? Why?

No, I wouldn't listen to it again. The story was compelling...but, in the end, Christian came off as self-serving and her "solution" to sobriety seemed to be an infomercial.

Would you recommend Babylon Confidential to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, for easy reading/listening, and compelling story. But not if you're looking for something deep.

A Memoir of Pity, Self Descruction and Narcissism

Wow...so disappointed. Although I have not followed a lot of her career, I do like a good autobiography so thought why not. What I read was a person who after not fighting tooth and nail in an early incident, went on to live the rest of her life that way. Laid back and took it! She may have lost me when she referred to her self inflicted alcoholism as a disease! No honey, cancer is a disease not drinking to excess.
So much happened to her before she was obviously mentally ready for it which seems so common for young people in that line of work. I tried to have compassion for her and on occasion I did. But where as other autobiographies have me writing up a list of the person's work to watch later, this one left me with "well I saw that movie so that's enough'.
In the end I was very annoyed to find that the whole book seemed to be the build up to an advertising ploy. Well done as I did listen to it all but I do not need all that information on how to be an alcoholic and still drink but not have the effects be so destructive on your life and those around you. At least now I now the story behind her facial plastic surgery.
